Giant fit question

Looking at a Giant XTC Alliance that is used and while not far away....is a bit of a drive. It's a size 16 and I'm 5'10". The owner is 5'6" and says its too big for him. Should I bother with the drive?

I don't know what a size 16 is...I've never heard a bike size referred to that way. 56cm...60cm...small med large...so what does size 16 mean?

Being an MYB a 26 is 16 inche frame, I'm 5'9 & take a 17 or Medium (Fisher & now Kona). It's a tough cal as I don't know what the top tube is, which is more criticsl to the fit, may some body that has on will chip in.

I'm at work but maybe can find a tape measure....32" inseam if that helps? I'll be sticking to trails and won't do anything wild by any means. I have a mountain bike already and will put slicks on one of them for a hybrid-type use. He's giving me some slicks with this bike.....thanks so much for your help. If its a non-starter, I don't want to waste his time. Still, he's a bike mechanic and feels it might work.....but he's also selling the bike

Hi,

Well if that is true at 5'10" no way should a 16" be too big for 5'6".

rgds, sreten.

As it turns out, his inseam is only 1" less than mine so I'm gonna go look at it. Too good a bike to ignore!

I think you are absolutely right. Yes, in theory you need a larger frame, but you can adjust everything to fit properly quite easily. I can also tell you, anecdotally, that I sold my road bike 3 or 4 years ago when I realized that I was close to needing spine surgery. I had a "small" sized Giant OCR. I am 5'6". The young man who bought the bike is 5'10" or so, and by merely raising the seat (with plenty of seat post remaining) he achieved a comfortable fit. It was well worth it for him as he was getting a $700 bike for $300.

So if the deal is good, don't discount it based on the official frame size.
Good luck and best regards

Thanks for the info. He says the seat is at it's lowest point so I think I should be good to go....will let everyone know in a couple days after I see it...and hopefully buy it! I'm also looking at two others but they aren't as well set-up. Now I just have to be patient until we can get together..
