6' w/ 32" inseam: Can I ride a "medium" frame?

Hello,
I am completely new to this and am scouring CL to find a bike I can commute on. After reading many threads it seems older hardtail mountain bikes with slick tires work well. I am considering a 2000 Trek 8000r, and the frame size is "Medium" but doesn't list a measurement. I am a rather thick 250lb 6 footer with stubby legs 32" inseam. Should I pass on this bike or could it work for me?
Thanks!

Nevermind. I found a good deal on a like new 7.1FX that fits me like a glove.
