seeking advice on custom footbeds

anyone here know much about custom orthotics / footbeds?

about three years ago when i started to go on longer bike rides i decided to get fit professionally. the fitter recommended custom foot beds. Damn, did it make a difference!

But I'm not so crazy about the $200 price tag.

now i'm looking at something like superfeet or sof sole which is closer to $40. I'm being choosy trying to find something that closely matches the custom foot bed but its hard to find something with a lot of arch support but doesn't take up a lot of space in the shoe.

has anyone been down this path before?

My "duck feet" (my wife's term since they're flat as can be and toed out) seem to like Superfeet insoles. I use them in both my regular shoes and cycling shoes. The Superfeet yellows are recommended for cycling, but the blacks take up less volume. Superfeet don't have a lot of arch support, so if you have medium to high arches, something like eSoles or G8 ARCHTECH 2600 are probably a better choice (thought they're more expensive and harder to find).

sounds like i have "duck feet" too.

I spent a long while comparing my custom insoles to superfeet. my insoles have a rather high arch so i was only looking at the high arch insoles which were all too physically built up. I should take a look at the yellows.

Sof sole seemed to have something in the high arch/low volume area.

I wish i had a better idea of what i need/what i'm looking for. i can compare and see difference but i'm not sure which differences are meaningful.
