I think this thread is a good idea. I was talking to Scrod about making a thread specifically for the FGFS sweet edits, so we don't have to flame and say "get a BMX" everytime a video is posted.

Scrodzilla 04-01-11 10:15 PM

For real, everyone needs to realize that FGFS is a part of fixed gear riding and the hate needs to stop. Whether anyone - myself included - is a "fan" or not, I think it's a good idea to have a thread dedicated to this sort of stuff.

Haters, it's really simple. Stay away.

I don't think Scrod was getting at you being entitled to your own opinion or not, far from it, opinions differ sheeple from people. I think the situation is that people with FGFS should be able to have their own thread and post in it without the majority of folks barging in just to flame it. It says in the title what the thread is going to be, if it;s not relevant to your interest, there's no reason to go to it.

Like wouldn't it be obnoxious if a bunch of roadies(just an example) came into one of our threads just to complain and talk about how lame it is, and how there shouldn't be anything there for us to post in?
Just let these kids have fun, and you can have fun doing what you do.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but coming into a thread where you dislike the subject matter just to make fun of what's being discussed isn't going to accomplish anything. Like I said, trick riding is a part of riding fixed whether you - or I, or anyone else - approves of it or not.

There's a 40+ thread, why not FGFS?

This. Thank you Butthash.

Whoa that's probably the longest post I've ever seen you post, adriano. Congratulations.

I think FGFS is fun to watch for the most part, but it does get kind of old after awhile since the tricks are limited. Still, I wish I possessed the skills to do even the most basic tricks.

Scrodzilla 04-02-11 07:52 PM

adriano - I keep deleting your posts because you aren't actually contributing anything to this thread.

Post your Wikipedia links all you'd like. It really has nothing at all do do with a "conflict of interest" (or what my company sells) and has everything to do with the fact that FGFS exists in the world of cycling and there's no reason it shouldn't have a place to be discussed without getting flamed.

nickpoiron 04-02-11 07:58 PM

all the "equipment" that he sells for fgfs would be pedal-belts. and even then not everyone that uses them does tricks.

Thank you.

le sigh. i concede.

Props to Scrod for keeping this high maintenance thread alive. A lot of flame wars yet little to no sweet FGFS edits, maybe they're all hanging out at tricktrack.

I think Michael Chacon is the only one here who contributes "sweet edits."

Squirrelli 04-02-11 10:15 PM

Him and Shane(?) post their sweet edits quite often.

This thread may very well be useless because we seem to be quite intolerant about FGFS and no one is ready to be flamed; besides the thick skins like Chancon and Shane(?).

Obligatory lolcat:

Alright I got to be 'that guy', what the heck does FGFS mean? Fixed Gear Freestyle?

Scrodzilla 04-02-11 11:13 PM

Yes.

Even though I don't have a fgfs set up bike, some of the tricks they're doing are pretty cool. I found this tutorial today and have been working on figuring it out:

As other people have said, almost everything in this thread will be a rozap from tricktrack so don't freak out.

illdthedj 04-06-11 05:31 PM

ive always been kinda "meh" about fixed gear trick riding....but i will admit the keo spins are sick looking. i would definitely not mind learning how to do that.

you cant really do those on a non-fixed bike, right? because it looks like you are backpeddling then locking up the pedals while shifting your weight around on the back wheel....

Yeah, you couldn't do them on a bike with a freewheel unless you already had backwards momentum from a ramp or a 180. From what I've gathered, you do half a crank rotation backwards then resist/pedal forward while shifting your weight back. Idk if it's just me, but it feels really awkward on drop bullhorns when you have to hold on with one hand and send the other backwards.

nealjoslyn 04-06-11 06:06 PM

I've always thought FGFS was pretty cool, but only to a certain extent. I like the 'tricks' that wouldn't be possible without a fixed gear (fancy skids, keo spins, etc.), but the closer it gets to BMX, the more annoying and awkward it gets.

yeah...the keo spins are cool but that's all so far? oh well, there's always this one...

Gao Jian 04-06-11 06:52 PM

The end made me cringe. He ate it so hard and still got up.

I think that's the main problem with FGFS. There's a certain lack of imagination. That's what makes Keo so popular and fun to watch, he's creative.

edit: In fact, the Macaframa movie is full of really cool ****. Like when the guy does a keo-esque spin and then wacks his front wheel against a pole to make it bar-spin.

+1
Macaframa is full of great fgfs stuff. I couldn't help but remember this FGFS on a penny-farthing:

sfreywagg 04-07-11 02:21 PM

oh hell yeah.
that "on bondage" track from the lamarche video was on one of the first punk cd's i ever bought. I got it from BMG back when there were all those CD mail order companies' Buy 1 Get 10 Free deals!

Still have the cd 15-16 years later.
