For something a little difference. Here's my Blue Birdy (2000ish). Its a 21 Speed, ready for my commute to work.
The Birdy is my occasional commuter, basically when I am likely to be picked up by my wife in our car rather then ride home. But the 12Km commute is a breeze on the Birdy.

Which bike?
The one that you can see in the photo is the back end of the Adams Trailer that I tow my daugther with. I connect the Trailer up to the Birdy and go along quite happily.
My normal commuter is not a folder but a Trek 7700fx. As much as I like the Birdy the Trek just gets along a bit better.

Wow. I never got that attitude when I passed up the same type of people in Italy. I got more curious stares and stuff like that. Perhaps you misinterpreted the looks? Really, I had many people ask what kind of bike it was, and how it held up with so much stuff I'd be pulling around with me and stuff like that. I even met other cyclists on the road that would pull up to me and offer me water and stuff. But never looks of disapproval or anything of that nature.
For any long distance riding I do, I always stick with my Pocket Rocket. I feel more comfortable on that bike than any bike I have. It's pure riding comfort.

The only person who told me I "should" be riding a traditional road bike was an Americian.
Interestingly, I was riding in the Rimini area, home of the great Pantani. I sopped in a small shop, where I saw Pantini's photo, taken right where I had been standing. So, I reckon to Italians, we were all riding on sacred ground.

This isn't my bike, but I saw it yesterday in a back street here in Kyoto. The owner was cleaning it and I asked to take the photo. The only brand markings on it was "Bridgestone"

ben the frame looks fine the only thing i can see is that you might want to fill that hole and paint over it.Does it pull the Birds?5port how do you like that saddle?Do you have stock gearing on your B, walk?

Hi James,
The seat is called the EZseat. Bought it on Ebay for 29.00. It works quite well. At first it feels awkward sitting on top of a fairly flat seat that is divided in two and each half pivots as you pedal. Now I love it! The point of it is nothing between your legs to bother the nether region.
My Boardwalk has the stock gearing (6 speeds). I'm tempted to make the upgrade to 7 but I only ride the Boardwalk for short sprints to the store/atm, otherwise I'm on the recumbent. Stock gearing works well for the hilly terrain were I am.

Mostly folded details for the moment. Got it on Friday. Dahon Speed Pro -- absolutely thrilled with it so far.
