Hi,

i just want to show you how far the conversion of my UNO (inspired very much by Bruce Metras wonderful Uno) went:

Cause i´m still waiting for parts of the Gates belt drive i built it up yesterday with normal chain drive (with nearly same gear ratio).



The handlebar i already changed at the end of last year.
Now there a 451 wheels with ALEX R390 rims (Thanks Bruce ) with a BF Tikit hub in the front and a F&S Duomatik (with a 28 holes body) at rear.
Tires are Schwalbe Durano.
The front brake is a Cane Creek SCR3


The crank is a SRAM S900 carbon with GXP bearing and 175mm arms (original 170 was too short). Pedals are Shimano A530.
The sidestand is a NoName product of Italy, 130 gr. less than original



Seatpost is a KORE I-Beam with a Seele Italia Flite Classic saddle.

As mentioned i´m still waiting for a part of the Belt drive, hope i can finsh than the bike. On the other hand you are really never done with customizing a bike ...

The weight at the moment ist 9870 gramms.

I would really like to have a shorter stem/handlepost, at the moment it is a few centimeters too high in my impression. It should be similiar like original (on piece, black and with a clamp on the top) just shorter. Maybe like on this bike



Does anyone know where to get such a stem??

From Thor's site here is a two piece they may get that low but is adjustable. You may want to contact Thor to get the length dimensions.

i just found a short one for the Jetstream P8. The difference is that it folds to the other side. I don´t know how much it affects the fodled size of the bike...

I was also thinking about the SA hub but i had already a Duomatik (NOS) here....

Yes, Jetstream P8 stem is shorter and folds to the outside.. not as nice as folding between the halves, but still okay.. it has the same quick release at the top as stock Uno stem, so you would still be able to get the bull horn bars out of the way quickly when folding.. if you can't find one in Germany for sale, I have it here.. I know you want one piece, but another option is a short two piece adjustable lower (which folds to the inside) with additional modding to secure the handlebar..

Hi Bruce, just came back from a short ride, it´s just fun - it´s really speedy

I found two handlepost for the Jetstream P8 (in difference to your pic they have the clamp on top like the one on my Uno).
One handlepost ist named with "short", "Radius" and "07",https://moobilo.de/dahon-lenksule-rad...-27633348.html

the other one is named with "Prolite Radius" "08".https://moobilo.de/dahon-lenksule-rad...-27633628.html
Do you know if they have changed the length between 07 and 08??

I don't know if the length changes with worldwide and USA models.. here is one I have close .. you might question your supplier for a measurement..

Ok, leave it to me to notice the cheap little thing on your beautiful bike that I want: what's the deal with the carry-handle at the water bottle braze-on? It is a commercial part somewhere or something you made yourself?

did your uno come with those cable wrapper chainguard? did you get rid of it? Trying to get an idea of the durability of that item.

Also, that bike looks a lot lighter than 9870 grams.

@wernst & jerrysimon: the carry-handle was my idea and a friend of mine (a british saddler) made it in just a perfect way

@Shinybiker: i had this cable wrapper. Its good to keep your legs clean as long as you ride in dry conditions. As i used the bike during winter and rain it collected water and the chain started rusting. And
than the cable wrapper was more brownish than black.....
I was also a little bit astonished about the weight, expected less. Maybe i have to check my balance :-))

While I was recently looking for another folding bike I saw an UNO at a sale price of £320, which I have yet to have seen bettered in the UK.

However one thing put me off and that was the drag caused either by the internal rear brake or the bearings, the bike shop adjusted it and it improved a little. I checked out a bike in another store and it had the same problem. Would the rear wheel become more free running with usage? The shop were rather vague on this point. I felt a bike whose main selling point was lightweight and simplicity should have minimal drag from the rear wheel.

Just to add since then I rode an old dutch bike with a drag brake and the rear wheel rolled fine.

i had the same impression when it was new. After a while (about 70 - 100km) it was gone, the wheel was running free

I picked up a cheap bike with a SRAM T3 coaster brake and I experienced that dragging sensation. I opened up the hub hoping my knowledge of Sturmey Archer hubs would be enough for me to find my way around but it wasn't so straight-forward. . . I gave up after a while, none the wiser.

Today i finished the Gates Carbon Drive



The bike runs just awesome :-)
