NYC Greenway

Just tried my Vybe c7a on the NY Greenway Hudson side, approx 14mi. It was a beautiful sight! Only thing is I had to walk my bike by the foot of the GW Bridge because the slope was too steep, I got scared going downhill and going uphill on that slope was almost impossible with my fitness. The commute was approx 2hours with some stopping to rest and take pictures with my Vybe. :)

It sounds like you enjoyed the trip. How about posting some of the photos?

My phone didn't snap quality pictures on the lowlight. Pictures were at the foot of the GS Bridge, by Riverside Park, and one by the Garden.

BTW Looking at your avatar, I was interested at one time with the Origami Brand. How are they? I think I saw them at Sports Authority.

Nice that you are out and riding in really great weather! not sure if you have but you'll need some lights for it.

In Toronto its a $35 fine with no lights at night. They're cracking down on the downtown area cause there's a big cycling community downtown and makes it safer for everyone but the bike ninjas.

Yes I did have lights, both rear and front. There were a lot of riders there with no lights, bells and even helmets. It is by law here that you have to have lights, bells and helmets to ride. I won't be riding without them because I feel naked and unsafe without them. Gloves add a lot of comfort too.

i see most major cities are cracking down on cyclists now too eh? i guess if they fine drivers for dooring us they have the right to fine us by being more visible to drivers too.

in case you are wondering about the changes to our Ontario Law.

‘Dooring’ a cyclist: ‘Dooring’ a cyclist will now carry a set fine of $365 and three points up from $60 and no points.

Oh and I was wrong, improper bicycle lighting now has gone up to $110 from $35 so we have to be just as responsible cyclists.

I guess, as long as we abide by the rules these laws shouldn't be a bad thing for us. I think I like it because it ensures us that we do ride safely than to harass us.

Does NYC law require lights and helmets?

Yep, both rear and front lights, helmet and a bell.

A helmet is only required by law if you're under 14. As for lights and a sounding device, they're required by law but few comply. I have lights, and a bell. I rarely use a helmet, but since I've increased the speed of my rides I'm reconsidering. Most injuries riding a bike are self inflicted,...why take a chance.

Lots of riders walk up that steep section. I think most folks don't shift to an easy gear early; then end up running out of gas halfway(over the rail road tracks).
I would suggest to shifting to an easy gear early; right by the Little Red lighthouse. Here I am passing a rider walking her hybrid up while I cruise by on my 6
speed folder(lowered gearing helps). 12:50 mark:
