Anyone ride a Dahon Mu Uno?
Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search but didn't find anything.
I've expanded my search of the next folder I want to buy. I won't be able to test ride any as none are nearby, so any help is appreciated.
My full size bike is a single speed so now I'm thinking about the Mu Uno. I live in flat Miami and am looking for a fun bike to go on ten or fifteen mile jaunts down to the bay on. I have a Curve but prefer the twenty inch tires.
I just want to have some fun. So I've looked at the Dahon iOS D 9, the Tern that's equal to that, an Origami Gazelle, which I like for price and aesthetics, and now the Mu.
Haven't ridden a bike with a coaster brake since I was a kid, so that's a question in my head, although I'd definitely use the front hand brake too.
I don't have space in my little apartment for another full size bike and I live in a two story walk up so I like the weight of the bike. I'm a hundred pound gal so that matters!

I used to ride a Mu Uno a few years back.. great bike .. looks good, fairly light (gets lighter without seatpost pump), rides nice, folds pretty flat (handlepost folds between the halves), and the Shimano coaster brake worked fine (don't forget to add front brake also).. they lend themselves to obvious mods like a SRAM 2 speed hub or belt drive (both of which I did during ownership) ..
Here's MINE from back in time ..
And with Belt Drive

If I hadn't scored my used bike friday, I was going to get a Dahon Mu Uno. All the reviews I found were really great. I don't think I found one person who had a bad thing to say, pretty amazing. Light, durable, and upgrades do-able if you need it in the future. I did a boatload of research and this one came out on top of my list.

I'm a recent folder convert. Like you, I narrowed it down to Mu Uno. Got it just a month ago. Very agile and lightweight. Since I live 3 floors up, the 22lbs weight is very friendly to my shoulders. No mods for now. I enjoy it stock. I removed the fenders and front brakes.
About the coaster issue - you'll get used to it in a matter of minutes. I never ridden a coaster before when I was kid. After a few tries, it's second nature to me.
Good luck on your purchase!

Great to hear! Let us know your feedback. BTW, easy on the paint, these new school flat black matte finish is so easy to scratch unlike the old days. One thing to consider when riding a coaster is your startup pedal - left or right is up to you. It drove me crazy whenever I stop my pedals are in noon position, hard to move again. Stop with the pedals around 3 o'clock and life will be easier.
I'm loving the coaster brakes, very new and exciting to me.

You should like it! Very enjoyable to ride.,. If the steerer is too high for you, I might have an adjustable stem still left in the parts bin.. I'd ride it as is to see if it works fine for you, .. Don't forget to install the front brake... makes it much easier to ride in traffic.. have fun with it!

mechanically sound
Been riding mine for several months now. Got it because it was the lightest folder for under a grand. Very agile and fast. Flickable. Folds in 10 seconds. Sweet.

Brucemetras I also saw online some folks change the stem for a shorter jetstream stem. I'll ride it for awhile and see what the story is. I'll keep ya posted!
Thanks for the links. Your bike was really nice. Why'd you get rid of it?

I have a jetstream stem I could sell you, if you end up needing it. It was too short for me on my Dahon Speed P8. Excellent condition,...

Yes, the stem I have is black and folds to the inside.. the big trick is if I can find it in storage (!) I was going to use it to lower the bars on mine, but used an Haberhallo stem off of fleabay to lower the bar a couple of inches instead ... you can sort of make out what it looked like Here ... you might find you like yours stock, but if not, I can have a look..

The biggest problem is to find a Mu Uno .... they are sold out since months now, and in the last monthly inventory listing they are not even listed anymore ????
