Origin8 folder recall due to welds cracking/failing

Origin8 recalls 1,600 folding bikes over frame concerns | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

FYI for anyone with an Origin8 folder. It appears they are replacing entire bikes with this recall, not just the frame.

I am SO GLAD I bought a used origin8 folder, had a bad customer experience, returned it. This just makes me feel better about me getting rid of that crap.

I mentioned this years ago but I was very disappointed in the Origin8 F series frames. I ordered two for the shop and both had sloppy fitting main hinge pins so even when the hinge was clamped it was loose enough to move slightly while riding and the bike creaked. Glad there's some recourse for any buyer who got stuck with one of these disappointments.

I found this. I'm not sure if it is related to the recall, but perhaps it is.

A bit less than 1% sounds really bad to me.

Turn a disaster into an opportunity: Make a line of separables like the Moulton Spaceframe.

Spotty welding .. labor speed Up?

OTOH, Brompton redesigned the whole hinge assembly its a casting Now where it was Butt fillet brazed in the Mk 2.

The capillary brazing of the tube into a machined casting allowed a higher production level without a inconsistent joint.
