I posted on the mechanics forum. That was obviously a mistake.

Better late than never. Ordered one yesterday. Below zero (degrees F) outside right now so not in any rush to install.

I have an adjustable stem on my Airnimal. And a quick release on it, so I can change the stem angle for when I fold up the bike.

A QUICK UPDATE.

I would like to thank the following for advice.

As long as its reasonable engages on slines inside hub. Slipping would quickly show this to be the case.
If thats the case you may need travel agents.

I installed the Sturmey Archer 3 speed bar end shifter on my folder today. It shifts the Sram Dual Drive perfectly.

Looks slightly odd with a black shifter on one side and a gray one (Shimano BS64 eight speed shifter) on the other side. But, it is a folder, everything is supposed to look a little odd.

Thanks again.

That's going to give you very low gearing when used on a bike with 20" wheels. The gearing would be equivalent to what you'd have with chainrings of 39/29 on a bike with 700c wheels. On my Bike Friday the rings are 60/42 with a cassette of 11-28. That ring combo is equivalent to about 45/31 on a bike with full size wheels - still on the small side but not too bad when paired with the 11 tooth cog.

If you go for the dual drive set up you will be very pleased with the ratios using a 53 or 56 front cog. If you go for the tripple you will be disappointed by lack of top. Dual drive shifts much better than a front mech. I recomend the dual drive route if you can.

The other option as an alternative to the DualDrive is the Capreo hub.

Stock, it is a 9-26 cassette with Shimano 9 speed. There should be a few ways to force Campy to shift a Shimano 9 speed cassette if you need.

The 9,10,&11 sprockets are Capreo specific. They will work with either that Capreo 13T sprocket for the next sprocket, or any Shimano 9s 12T sprockets, and the rest of the cassette. Some 10 speed options may be available, as well as custom cassette configurations.

So far I've found the Shimano Capreo to be reasonably good, but they use horrible cones and mediocre left seals.

Bike Friday, on the other hand, imports a Chosen brand hub with sealed cartridge bearings.

As Fietsbob mentioned, Bike Friday does make the drop bar pocket rocket. They use a split bar for packing/folding with internal reinforcement and a wide clamp. An open face stem might also be able to augment packing.

As long as you don't go too over the top, Bike Friday should be able to install the shifters and groupset of your choice.

I think the Bike Fridays can also be used with a front derailleur. Mine came with a front derailleur hanger, but didn't seem to have adequate cable routing since it came with the Sachs 3x7 dualdrive.

Capero doesnt yield a 36% upgear like dual drive does. 55/11= 5 standard
55/9= 6.1' approx.
5 increased by 36% = 6.8
Capero gives about 60% the upgrading of Dual drive. So you need a large chainwheel also.
It's a nice set up,i have 2 of the capero hubs, but it's only part of the upgrading that small wheels bikes need. Just a Larger chain wheel makes more sense imo than capsero.

Look up in google, handsonbike (upgrading your dahon/tern). I kinda did the same approach, a used Dahon Speed P8(350usd craiglist), used Ultegra 6500 (52/39t crankset with octolink BB 60usd craiglist), Shimano Alivio MTB 3x8 trigger shifters(40usd local bike shop/hardware store) a Litepro Braze-on FD Adapter(35usd on ebay) and a Shimano FD 2300 Braze-on Front Derailleur(25usd local bike shop/hardware store) Crankset was installed by the guy I bought the crankset with on ebay and FD and shifters were done at the Local Bike Shop. Am planning to get a bullhorn bar in the future and probably a Dahon Jetstream stem(outside fold, shorter and stiffer than the telescopic handlepost from the Speed) I can post some pictures when I get home since I use my vybe to work lol

I tend to agree, I have 2 Capreo hubs as well but would probably prefer dual drive from what I've read, and you get to use regular cassettes.
