Interesting Montague on Ebay

Looks really nice. I should buy and and sell mine. I wish it had the older mrx-plus shifters like mine, but it wouldn't be too expensive to change. the price probably will go up quite a bit near the end.

He says he put 1200 dollars into the bike, hasn't ridden it but twenty miles and now it's only 400 bucks so the reserve was really low? Sounds too good to be true. Buyer beware.

On the other hand the seller does have a 100% positive feedback from well over 400 buyers but it does sound hard to believe. And really? A "carbon fiber" Montague? A bike originally designed for paratroopers?

Spinergy stopped making those wheels a long time ago (about 15-20 yrs ago ). I know Spinergy has had major manufacturing issues with their carbon wheels over the years. Those are first generation wheels, so I would be hesitant to recommend it. Otherwise it looks great.

Thanks,
Yan

Yan is right, stay away from those Rev-X wheels. They have a tendency to delaminate.

BTW, here's my take on an old Schwinn Montague. Still have this one:

I was looking at this bike the other day. I'd recommend purchasing it, and with the low price you can afford new wheels. The package seems to only need that one item changed. It could be a bit expensive, depending on what you decide to do as a replacement,...but if you play it right you just might have a good deal on your hands. But, yeah, the wheels most likey will get you killed. :/

I was thinking pretty much this. new 26" black wheels aren't that expensive. the carbon fiber would probably fail while I'm going down the steepest hill on my route right where the big trucks turn so i can go underneath and get squashed like a bug. got hit a couple weeks ago. it was best case scenario, I walked away but bike didn't. I learned my lesson, i'm not inherently lucky.

My previous post was not very positive, so I want to follow up with a good one. I rode on Spinergy Xaero Lite wheels for many years. They are the best wheels I've owned...this includes many Mavic Ksyrium sets. The Xaero's absorbed road shock extremely well, I would highly recommend the Xaero's to anyone in the market, however Spinergy always had manufacturing problems with their carbon wheels. I can't say anything good about those.

Thanks,
Yan

These wheels are already damaged/fractured. Carbon wheels, when damaged, are not worth the risk of riding on. IMO of course,... YMMV.

I bet, because I haven't looked at this guy's, that most feedback is he shipped fast and the product was as stated. You won't hear from the guy who went flying down the hill on a cracked carbon wheel. He's in the hospital.

You can't really rate the guy down for that. He has a close up picture of the fracture and says it needs to be looked at by a bike shop. He's not being dishonest about anything.

if you guys aren't interested in a folding mountain bike with CF wheels, how about a track bike with ape hangers? i'll throw in the banana seat and steel chain guard for free.

I really need to visit the bike shop where you are. I'm sure it'll be a quite enjoyable experience,...

What I meant to say is that the seller is legit. Don't know about how good the carbon wheels are on that bike. Personally, I prefer steel bikes over any other material anyway.
