SOLOROCK, a unique fairyland to Rock & Roll for a greener planet.™©
from SOLOROCK, the company that brought you this dahon curve/dove shaped 32lb steel boat anchor
and this washing machine
now comes the bicycle that combines the stolen intellectual property of dahon and montague in one glorious package!
meet the SOLOROCK™© Spin 3™© and Spin 5™©!!
watch this excellent video demonstrating the ease and speed of folding and unfolding this brilliant machine!
did SOLOROCK™© have a licensing agreement with FNHON™© to produce these bikes under their own name? or did SOLOROCK™© steal the design from FNHON™© who in turn stole it from dahon and montague?
nobody knows or cares! buy yours today!

"well, mate. they're not exactly the same though, are they? i mean, one is yellow and the other is camo color, innit. in fact, they seem to be slightly different, to be quite honest."

half way commuter
similar bike being marketed here in Spore and Bangkok as "FSIR", well priced though, the retailer in Bangkok said best seller model is one with 16" wheel.

I would say no the Fsir is not a copy of Dahon or Montague at all but a totally new design which actually gives it a very strong and stiff frame here kudos to them for not copying for once. Dahon has nothing that even looks similar to this. And it swings like the Montague but not really the same. The Montague swing around the seatpost and have a small clip system while the Fsir swings on a massive bearing under the frame ahead of the seatpost. After that the seatpost dual quick release clips holds the entire fold together. But as for Solorock copying or licensing off the design from fnhon i wouldn't know. But they can probably even be purchasing it from fnhon since they are bike manufacturers and would probably take the highest bidder if you want their frames.

I especially like the sound of the seat post being scratched its entire length as he slides it in!

The Solorock bikes seem to be the ones sold for pennies on the dollar on eBay. I wouldn't trust 'em.

You know what "Smallwheeler"? I am trying very hard to understand your unusual sense of humor, and eccentricity.
Let me post a video on how that bike (Spin 3) is folded when done by someone who knows what the heck they're doing.
And now, let me post a video of someone who doesn't know sh*t about folding the very "brilliant" Brompton.
See the difference?
And let me tell you that the folding bicycle world does not revolve around Dahon. Much of the designs you see on frames are not exclusive to any brand. They are usually created by independent design bureaus and licensed out to any manufacturer that desires to incorporate that frame into their model line up. Oh sure, some designs are exclusive but the one you see on the Spin 3 and 5 aren't by a long shot. As someone else mentioned, there is s brand in Asia called the FSIR that uses that same frame. So no, there is no conspiracy to "steal" Dahon's intellectual property.

I will take your advice about not using my time to figure out your eccentricity.
As far as my comment, this is privileged information I learned from an industry insider who travels to mainland China and Taiwan several times per year. There is a reason why there are such similarities between products with different brand names, but no, to you they are "copycats" of certain boutique, and over priced articles which shall remain unnamed to help keep the peace around here.
And lastly, I don't know why you didn't notice but today, the only thing "communist" left in China is how they elect their leadership. Other than that, they are teaching the rest of the world how to run a free and open economy, and quite frankly, we here in the US begrudgingly know it.
So coming back to the manufacturing of bicycle products or any other industry for that matter, yes, mainland China is a major hub for not only making but designing those products as well.

trying to understand my eccentricity is not going to be a good use of your time, eddie. however, one thing you could do is provide some citation for the factual claim you have made (for the second time) that dahon designs come from some sort of communist design collective. i can't seem to find any data to back that up. i wouldn't be surprised if their claims of "designed and engineered in the usa" turned out to be completely bogus, but it would be really neat-o if you could prove your claim.

Not sure how you define a free and open economy. World wide patent application, human rights abuses, suppression of political freedom, GATS, collution with the rest of the "developed" world in to unfair treatment and international trade laws to developing counties......
Free trade is usually tied to a power struggle of vested interests that mulitnational companies tend to rule over the basic human rights of developing counties. UK included in this. Re Multi lateral agreements and general agreement on services, internation laws, banking and investment in companies that seriously abuse developing counties citizens.
Free and open in whos eyes............
In the world wealthiest counties we are al involved in human abuses indirectly by the companies we work for and the banks that they and we use. We can ethically look for the least damaging ones. The notion that any developed country has a free and open trade with the rest of the world is a utopia that ignores the suffering of the world poor inflicted by multinational companies.
Roll on fair trade not free trade.

Normal service will be resumed.
Any one got one of these bikes?
They would be interesting with mono forks and stays design.

slop in the pivot joints
Without seeing it firsthand, I have a concern over slop in the lower pivot and seat tube lockup.
I can see that the seat tube is firmly clamped into the main tube, but it looks like it just fits into the lower assembly without a clamp. (Unlike an earlier poster, I take that seat tube sliding noise as the sign of a good fit. The modern longer seat tubes are often machined - perhaps deliberately, with a coarse, circumferential ribbed surface. It makes that distinctive sound when it goes into a properly fitting seat tube. I've had that exact sound on some of my bikes.)
But even if the forward bearing is a perfect fit, what about the slop of the seat tube going into the lower assembly? That's got to produce some rocking. If anyone here has one, how about some close up pictures of that seat tube fit into the lower assembly.

Yes, there's 2 quick release levers to secure the seatpost.

Given that, I have to give this guy credit for doing something different. I know small knocked it, but this certainly isn't worse than some of the weirdo/poor designs in her thread Bikes We Like.
