Here's how I carry a U lock when travelling on a Brompton, so I can have one extra kg in the T-bag in the front.

Thusly attached with two velcro bands, the lock is secure but it's annoying enough to attach/detach for a quick stop.

Does someone have a better idea to carry a U lock on a Brompton? For instance, could it be possible to build an attachment with a 3D printer?

I Like Abus Bordo folding locks Myself, the Pouch for them can fit behind the seat tube. (Seen it Done)

It could also go ** On top of the frame tube .

But My M3L, I use an armored cable lock and Just Hang it from the handlebars..

** I have my Granit Bordo there on My Bike Friday Pocket Llama .. (they have bottle bosses there)

Thanks, but too many bikes have been stolen over here while protected with an Abus Bordo. I'll stick to Bicycle Gold-rated compact U locks.

This might work if you attached the two narrow straps under your main tube - you would still be able to push the seat down, I think. U-Lock Holster | Oopsmark

I think most people carry their lock in their front bag. I carry mine on my saddlebag like this

The Abus Bordo folding line-up includes locks of different security levels, from 6 to 15 on the internal scale of Abus. The 6000 is in the middle at 10. The top one is 6500 at 15. Given the cost of Brompton it makes no sense to go with anything but the top.

When I carried a U-lock on a Brompton, I used the placement such as here

No 3D printed plastic is strong enough to support a U lock IMO.
You could 3D print steel and it would be fine but really heavy.

Thanks for the idea, but I'd rather have the weight down close to the frame rather than up there behind the saddle.

In the city, that's what I do, but I was talking about touring, where moving 1kg outside the T-bag is important (max weight supported by the lug: 10kg).

Right, but in terms of weight + price, a Bicycle Gold compact U lock beats the strongest Bordo.

Thanks for the input. I'll see if I can come up with a faster way to fasten the lock where it currently resides.

Beyond weight+price there is actual utility of a lock. Surprisingly Brompton often places more demand on a lock than does a regular bike. In any case, in terms of versatility, U-lock is at the bottom, chain at the top and folding lock in the middle. Personally I go away from U-locks.
