Ori M9

Hi everyone,

I was quite an active member a number years ago and owned a few good folders (Dahon/Bike Friday), but a life turning event forced me to leave the forum for awhile and to sell all the folders and my carbon bike so I could put myself through nursing school. Now that I'm back working and my life is stable again, I miss my folders and the convenience they bring. I am not looking to spend much money either, but don't want to own a lemon. I was looking through Craigslist and found this bike, the Ori M9. I don't know much about it, but it has 16" wheels and folds like a Brompton. Fits my price range. When did the Ori M9 came out and is it still sold? What sort of gearing it has? And what sort of problems I need to be looking for?

Thanks!

Ori used to be Mezzo, there's a huge thread about them here. Earlier models had problems with the fork's folding design, so make sure you have the latest version and make very sure it's locked in the correct open position before riding.

Did you buy the bike?
I own a mezzo I4, it is well designed and constructed bike. It achieves its small fold by folding the fork, which involves releasing the front wheel from the drop outs.

Here is the thread that brought to light the issue of the lawyer lips wearing off in some of the pre-2008-ish models:

Here is a thread of enthusiasts, that gets re-activated occasionally (if you bought the bike this would be a good thread to post to with questions)

The M9 seems to been replaced by the M10, It could have been only a max of 2 years that it has been out of production, I imagine there are still some in the supply chain. But as far as I know there is still no Canadian or American distributor.

Personally I think these are GREAT bikes and would have snatched up a used one (in good condition at a reasonable price) in a heart beat. With the exception of the robust hinges they use off the shelf bicycle components.

Does it feel odd when your turn? (Because of the dogleg on the steerer tube.) I imagine something like this, but well lubricated .
