20" folding bike

This is a flea bay 20" folding bike. It will be uses for a few mile per summer. While I was assembling it, I am experiencing 2 problems. First the steering bar has some play to it so I realized I must be missing a part. Does anyone know what the missing part is called? A link to the picture is below showing an arrow to the hollow space.

Second, I don't see anything to tighten the gear shifter at the hand bar. Does anyone know what part do I need? A link to the picture is below showing the type of gear shifter.

You don't mention what model you bought but with regards the handlebar stem I'm not sure you are missing any part it may just need careful adjustment to prevent/reduce play. Assuming you have bought a new bike and are assembling from a box these normally get quite a lot of vibration in transit and some parts work free if you can't find the missing part in the box you will just have to find a compatible size of screw or bolt but I guess the supplier should sort out that issue. I don't know about the US but in the UK I've never seen a bike with a saiguan gear selector but have seen the derailleurs as a low cost replacement part.

When you have a bike manufactured with very entry level parts its possible and recommended to check the bike thoroughly over. You may find there is missing or very little grease in the ball bearings in the wheels, bottom bracket and headtube and could cause problems if not dealt with. Try to use a water proof/resistant grease if possible. It's also almost expected that you will have to set the brakes and gears yourself as factory adjustment may be very basic and possibly incorrect. You may also find some fittings aren't fit for purpose and need spring washers to prevent working loose when riding. Typically bells, reflectors and minor parts.

The brand is Amiao. It looks like a rebrand of other budget bikes. Here are the video links that could better show the problems.

With regard the handlebar height adjustment it doesn't look like the height adjustment lock has been properly set to hold the handlebars at the right tension. On the video the lever isn't in the right position. I've a feeling even when properly set there will still be some small movement at the bottom end of the handlebars tube but it won't matter if the handlebars are secure where they are held by tension. I could be wrong of course I don't know the bike but the handlebar stem has a taper as it goes up which means there would be some play at the bottom and I doubt they would fit an extra liner of metal inside as its extra weight that may not be necessary.

I was looking back and forward with the handlebar, I realized that the height is not meant to be adjusted for height. The handlebar stem with the hollow center should be lowered to contact the bottom. It reduces like 95% for the play.

With the gear shifter, there is flat philip type screw that I had overlooked.

I will be trying this out in a few days. Thank you Bonzo.

I think the handlebar height is definitely meant to be adjustable looking at the design but it may simply be that you are not happy with the level of play when set higher. You may want to concentrate on the height tension lever that may be poorly fitted or incorrectly adjusted for tension. Perfecting its position and tension might make an improvement.

Getting to know your bike and dealing with design weaknesses and issues is fairly normal. Hopefully you will get it sorted just as you like it. So many guides on youtube to do just about everything bike related. Hope you enjoy your bike.

Thank you. I am sure I will be dealing with more issues with this budget bike.

This is a quick release for a wheel but adjusting it and using it is the same as for the one on your handlebar:

Do not give up, you`ll get it in the end.
