Hey Yan. Thanks for responding. I've been drooling over your bikes for years and finally was able to get a bare 9 front suspension. I was also able to get a hold of a Saso shock fork but until I'm ready for that, I figured it'd be nice to ride it around first...since the shock is threadless, I thought I should go threadless with the rigid fork as well. I'm just not sure of the headset to use. Will there be enough clearance for a 1 1/8" threadless headset? What would you recommend?
Also the bottom bracket that came along with this doesn't fit. Do you have the specs for that too? Thanks in advance!

FYI we have had 4 different front suspension frames over the years. I assume you have the newest model? We have always used 1 1/8" headset ( it was threaded from 2005-2009 ). FYI parts may be very expensive, I understand nice 20" wheels are hard to come by. Make sure you spend less for parts than our $549 retail.

just that it is awful difficult when you know the answer and have it on your website with pictures etc etc and cant post a link ...
the viciousness and tone of voice of the moderators almost made me quit this forum .... than changed my name from brakemaeister to ThorUSA .. for a new start... and that was not allowed either ..lost all my posts and payment ( donation to this site ) info... but eventually barely got back in ...
the whole thing bothered ( and maybe still does ) me, as I think that 99% is service, we as Industry hacks are giving here .... but we should be allowed to use the 1% to make some money as well...

I can't do the measurements of the seatpost I have. The bike itself is umm, the subject of a custody battle in my rather painful divorce, but I think I will get it in return for the bulk of the equity in my home. That was.

We stopped selling the mini's in 2009, and will introduce them this summer. I recall the old ones used a 30.4mm seatppost but I also think the early mini's used 27.2mm seatpost.

I am greatly pleased to hear the mini will be back. I miss it a lot as my everyday folding workhorse. I have a Brompton SL2-X, which is lovely, but almost too precious to ride in the city I live in, which is stupid. Plus the mini has more gears. Hope you will do it in green. FWIW some simple mods to enable holding it together when folded (magnets ? good bungee mounts ?) would give it a big 'in' on the commuter market in the UK.

Riding to the race start, my partner was not comfortable riding amongst the traffic in the city, but I would let her lead the way and she knew I was nearby (and not stuck at the light or whatever). And during the race (more of a parade), I would lead and slower bikers and pedestrians would slide out of our way. Clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack-clack.
Now if we could put these things on the Prius, I would not worry about getting hit by one of those silent killers.

I moved to a much better factory 10 years ago. The frames have been rock solid however there were some assembly issues 10 yrs ago ( some examples: BB was too tight, brake adjustment out, rear reflector breaking in shipping )....all those issues are long gone. I think my factory assembly is top notch. Many customers tell me they just take the bike out of the box and ride. The percentage is increasing every year.

as far as i know Yan is the owner and downtube is the only dealer in the world. He's an online only shop. Plus where is that MINI that he is talking about bringing back!?!?!

Monti- all our bikes are made in the same factory. The Nova's are not at the same level as the 9 and 9FS, however they are great for the price.
marxmini- my wife runs distribution in Indonesia. We are looking to expand to other countries ( we are offering incentives ).

Anyone know of any suitable replacement for the suspension pivot of a 8fs model?
I ask because I've noticed a bit of flex on the lower part of the bike and it seems the pivot is the cause of it, makes a creaking noise if I apply more force to one side of the pedals.

Ha! found my old password...Seajhay is the same CJinPiedmont ...i went with a SASO 1 1/8" shock fork. uncut riser and a STACK of spacers..almost done for the trial ride....[still saving lunch money...04, 05, 06 cents....]

I don't know if it is the same set up as the 8FS, but a while back someone made changes to the Downtube Mini's suspension design, including mods at the pivot. Here's the link:

Couldn't see anything about the pivot itself, only saw him adding a piece of rubber to the spring section.
8FS suspension springs are beefier so I don't really have a problem there.
This is the area that I'm referring to.
