new folder in the works

I've finally ordered my Scooty-Puff Junior..., er, Bike Friday New World Tourist, and was given a target ship date of 2 November. It's based upon the NewWorld Sport Extra 27, with an Ultegra upgrade plus a handful of minor tweaks.

My wife says I've just forfeit the next several birthdays, but I think this is worth it! On the other hand, she's probably expecting some impressive goodies when hers comes around. Oh well... still worth it!!! :D

(Can you tell that I'm excited? :p)

xcapekey 10-19-05 10:25 AM

woohoo...we have the same ship date :) can't wait to get mine either...though i haven't come up with a name for mine

landstander 10-19-05 12:37 PM

I haven't actually named mine either... Scooty-Puff Junior was just a Futurama reference that popped to mind. :)

Just remember, "Scooty Puff Jr. suuuuuuuuucks!". Name it Scooty Puff Sr. - The Dominator or whatever it was called. And zip tie a Nibbler doll to the handlebars to make it look meaner.

jyossarian beat me to it. Go with the "Sr." verison. LOL! Nice to see some Futurama fans on the forum. ;)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any pictures of the Junior. :(

Hehehe... now that would be a very amusing visual!

Bike Fridays are expensive, sofisticated, custom assembled pieces of science and art. Somehow I believe that all Bike Fridays should receive a (fake) scientific name of an exotic bird.
Due to the Futurama reference, I would suggest something along the lines of "scootis puffuraminus senioris"

Just my contribution,

Rafael

LOL! That's awesome! You should make a sticker out of that cigar smokin' bird and slap it on that sophisticated piece of science and art! It'll be even more bad-ass lookin' and no one'll wanna mess with the "Doom-Bringer"! And maybe zip tie a cigar smokin' Bender to the seat post.

BWAHAHAHA!!! I practically fell out of the chair when I read that! :roflmao:

Apparently work will be sending me to Raleigh, NC on 5 or 6 November, so Steve Strickland at BF has upgraded the shipping to FedEx 2-day delivery. If all goes as planned (and he seems pretty confident that it will), my NWT will arrive on the 4th (Friday). Woohoo!!! :D

Now I just need to decide whether or not to bring the bike along on this trip. It sounds like I won't have much in the way of free time anyway :(, and I'd really like to spend a week or so getting familiar with how it handles first anyway. Some time to practice packing/unpacking might also be helpful. Decisions, decisions! :p

Go for it. My first Bike Friday arrived on a Thu and I left on a Saturday for a week in the Caribbean. I rode the bike a little on Thursday and practiced packing on Friday....I took the bike on my trip and I was hooked. That was 7 months ago and I now own two BF's and haven't ridden a full size bike since.

FYI, Bike Friday is pretty good about under commiting and over performing. Both of my BFs arrived a day early than expected

I gotta admit, I'm really pumped to try the beastie out. That's getting more tempting by the minute!

Yup. Watch out for this.

I was supposed to receive our Tandem Two'sDay near Halloween, but it is now sitting in one box in my garage having arrived one week early. I can't work with it until this weekend, but leave it to BF to mess up my schedule. :D

Just received my NWT two weeks ago (same model and upgrades as yours). After having ridden it for two weeks, I'm convinced that those guys are geniuses (geneii?). The bike is super responsive and the most comfortable bike that I've ever ridden (which up till now was a Trek 520). It's official name is "Red Rover". Did you get the Capreo hubset? You will find that the taller gearing the better. I have discovered as has a rider in Tucson that I know (who has 3 BFs) that the BF seems to pedal more easily. Both he and I only used the middle chain ring, wheras on a regular bike, we used the inner chainring (and that is with equivalent gear inches). You'll love your bike.

That's very encouraging... my current bike (which I'm pretty happy with) is a Trek 520. I'm really looking forward to this now!

Yes. I went back and forth on that point for quite awhile, but in the end I opted for the Capreo. I'm not sure what you mean by "taller gearing", tho.

Doug Campbell 10-27-05 05:48 PM

By taller geariing I meant the higher speed gear that you get from having the smaller cogs of the Capreo hub. You made the right choice. What color?

Thanx, that makes sense. The color is Midnight Blue.

I've just been informed that the bike was shipped late yesterday afternoon... with bit 'o luck, it should be in my grubby little paws sometime tomorrow! :D
