Woohoo!!! My Bike Friday has arrived!

I've only had time for a quick test-ride around the block, but I think I'm in love! The ride is amazingly smooth, and that bike looks sharp. I'm visiting with family tomorrow, but will try to get some pictures posted on Sunday.

So far, the only issue is that the chain's a bit noisy when on the middle/outer rings. I'm pretty sure it just needs some minor adjustment of the front derailleur, tho, so I don't think it will be a problem. Hopefully playing with the cable tension (it has a barrel-adjuster) will take care of this... otherwise I'll have to spend some time on the Park Tool website.

I forgot to mention that the nameplate was backordered, so it's not completely personalized yet. Not a big deal... they made a point of rushing the bike to me in order to accomodate a business trip (which was just pushed back a week ). I just have to figure out where that sucker's supposed to go!

    As promised...

Unfortunately, correcting the derailleur issue turned out to be a bit more complicated than I'd hoped. I think I'm going to take it by my LBS for a proper adjustment, before I manage to do any real damage... I've already broken quite a few strands while trying to re-tension the cable.

i got my BF on thursday and have been plagued with derailleur problems out of the box as well...the front one wouldn't shift to the large chainring and when it did the teeth would but up against the cage and bring the cranks to a halt...

my rear DR was a lemon and a new one had to be overnighted to the LBS so they could install it....

now...after all the adjustments it works great...but definitely take it in somewhere to be finetuned unless u know what you're doing

Nearly forgot to mention... I've signed up for a couple of Park Tool School sessions later this month. Next time, I hope to have a decent idea of what I'm doing (or how to go about it, at least ).

Finally had a chance to do some riding on the newly-adjusted BF last night, and everything seems to be working properly now. I'm happy to report that it's one sweet ride!

I'll post another picture or two once I finish decking it out (lights, etc.).

Hmmm... seems that the LBS didn't do as good a job as I had thought. While they did have it shifting successfully, the chain was rubbing the front derailleur cage (making for a rather noisy ride) in a number of perfectly legitimate gear combinations... the middle chainring with any of the 4 smallest sprockets, for example. I ended up re-doing the adjustments per the instructions from the Park Tool website (without wreaking havoc this time ), and it looks like the gearing problems have finally been laid to rest.

Glad to read that you're enjoying your new Friday. I got lucky with mine (pocket crusoe) in that it worked quite nicely right out of the box. I've put over 1500 miles on it since I got it in May.

Anyway, the nameplate goes on the monotube, left side, near the seat post. In the picture (attached) it shows up only as a shiny rectangular object.

Sorry, got sidetracked by unrelated issues for a bit. In any event, here's the more-or-less fully tweaked version.

The headlights are a pair of Light & Motion Vegas . The one on the left is aimed slightly higher (roughly level), and is intended mainly to ensure that I'm visible to approaching cars. Since it gets 24 hours of runtime in flashing mode, it can also serve as a backup for it's twin.

The blinkies are a Blackburn Mars 3.0, and a pair of ViewPoint FlashBack Bar-Ends. The seat bag is a Topeak Aero Wedge QR (medium), and the pump is a Topeak Road Morph (mounted using their old-style "alternate" bracket).

    Schweeeeeet!!!

    Congrats!

When I got my BF, I just had them deliver it straight to my LBS. I switched out all my comoponents to Ultegra. I got it back and it ran like butter. So I'm not surprised there may be some slight adjustment, but overall, you're going to love your bike.
