Question - Switching rims on a Raleigh 20

I'm thinking of continuing to use the Raleigh hubs but changing the rims out on my Raleigh 20. I'm curious to know if you can you just 'tie off' the spokes, remove the nipples, and switch rims without having to unlace and relace the whole wheel?

I'm going to go out on a limb here since I haven't built wheels myself but I've seen it done.

I've thought along similar lines. I *suspect* this would speed up the wheel build slightly as you don't have to "think" about which spoke to put where. If you're going with an identical rim diameter, why not save a few minutes?

BUT...I also suspect you're basically going to be learning wheel-building during this process: you'll still have to figure out how to properly tension all the spokes.

I answered you over on the altbikes forum. Good luck.

Thanks, I saw that. I've built wheels from scratch before, I'm just looking to save myself some extra work. Lashing the rims together makes sense, that wasn't how I was thinking about it originally.
