Hi folks. This is my first post here. I just ordered one of the Zport models. I basically plan to use it to get from my house to the train station, weather permitting, on my way to work and ride it when my kids go out with their bicycles.

Well my new Zport arrived. I went with the TQR1603CS. This is my first folding bicycle and marks a return to cycling for me after roughly a 10 year break. As such, I really don't have the same frame of reference that the experienced riders around here do. I just took it for its first ride, really just a quick run around the neighborhood, and everything seems to work quite well. The seat tube is just adequate for my 5'10" height and my knees thankfully don't touch the handlebars. Ground clearance for the derailleur is about three inches, not great but adequate in my opinion. The overall weight is a bit on the high side for a folder though at 31lbs. That, I imagine, is the tradeoff for low price.
The real test for this one for me will come, weather permitting, next week. I plan to start bike/train commuting to Manhattan from Queens. I have tried gyms and what not and cycling is the only exercise that I really enjoyed and didn't get bored with years ago. We'll see how things go.

ebrandwien, what's your inseam? From the pics, it looks like that bike wouldn't fit anyone over 5'5" or so. What is the bottom bracket to seat top height measurement at maximum safe height?

Af, I think he said that the post is 25.4mm, so why would those shims help?

Oh, whoops! Brainfart.
You CAN find 400+mm seatposts in smaller diameters but it might take a bit more looking.

v1nce, what length seatpost are you talking about being able to easily find? I think we're talking at least 500mm here, not the typical 400mm mountain seatposts (or smaller) that are easy to find for cheap at places like Nashbar here in the states.

Does anyone have experience w/ this bike? I'm short, so the seat post shouldn't be a problem, just wondering about quality/mechnics.
How tough are the maintenance on these? Could a standard bike shop do it?

You might wanna consider this https://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodID=11120704
I think its a better deal for just a little bit more. Its a rebagged Dahon bike.

Thanks, but I could get an actual Dahon for that price. Anyways, my main attraction to the zport was the smaller size.
I know this is an old thread, but was wondering what the folks who have/had zports think of its build quality, especially after road-testing it for a while. TIA

I bought a older Zsport off of Craigslist for $5.00 last summer. I wasted my $5.00. It was a heavy 16" folder with a 3 speed derailer and rear band brake. I am glad to see their quality seems to have improved quite a bit. Maybe the older junk bikes sales made them enough money to design better bikes.

I have an older Zsport 20. The best descriptor for this bike other than junk is flexible. There is no rigidity whatsoever. I'm moving soon, and even tho it folds, I'm leaving it behind.
