He thought i rode a BF ha ha! :)

Today i walked into my nightwatch job with my Twenty in hand (usually bring it indoors) and there was this guest sitting there. He took one look at my rigg and inquired: 'Is that a Bike Friday?'

That made me pretty happy! Turns out he is an avid cyclist that owns a Bent, a tourer, a racer, an MTB and a BF (not many people in the Netherlands have them!). So he knows what they look like and at first glance thought my bike was one.

I asked him about his BF and he said he liked it but that he didn't use it all that much anymore. He said that one thing which he found dissapointing is that it did not serve well/fold well enough for multi mode commuting. I agreed that it was a pity that BF didn't have that functionality. He also said he would never ever dare leaving his BF outside for fear of theft. Felt pretty darn good about my Twenty, which i do take on trains, lock up outside my door and costs about half of the cheapest BF (ok ok, so the BF is better in other ways).

Heh.

I was riding in the downtown core last August and came to a corner where a bunch of cops were standing around, some kind of traffic watch.

One of them says, "hey! is that a Bike Friday?" wondering about my KHS.
If nothing else, BikeFriday has popularized the folding bike. (doesn't Lance ride one from time to time? Maybe a tandem?)

Some passing riders once mistook my BF for a Moulton.

Yeah, I love my Fridays, but one reason I got a Dahon was to have something that folded faster and would be a little less of a thief magnet. Doesn't ride like the Fridays, though.

The funny thing is though that Dahon's look pretty flashy and Fridays can look pretty mundane in some ways (frame design and such) but i guess people know the brand or see all the gears and just figure out they are worth jacking. A pity.

I know for a fact that Phil Ligget of TDF announcing fame owns and uses a BF. Just thought you might want to know.
