Downtube Forum

Woah nelly, this entire site seems to be taken over by DownTubers. Pretty cool because I just received mine...........Today! Actually, I had it sent to my mom's house in the U.S. and she is going to bring it with her some we can do a tour together here in Southern France from my home in Montpellier. I am excited because my wife and I have been doing a lot of touring on some very worn out "vintage" bikes, and the DT, being cheap will probably still seem like a Litespeed to us! I'll let everybody know how it works out.

CP, I know you are excited about your new bicycle but some people here are overwelmed by Yan's success, so, please despite I agree with you about DT and because we want to keep Yan about for a long time, I would suggest a bit of refrain on your hapiness.
Thanks

The entire site is being taken over by a modicum of individuals with multiple user accounts.

Stop.

There won't be an addition to this forum. Good luck to Yan, though.

I am not even sure if it was suggested but, it doesn't make sense to 'divide and conquer' ourselves. Creating a seperate DT forum or ignoring threads that are anti or pro-DT (or Dahon or any Brand for that matter) makes no sense to me.

About the multiple user account thing, that's messed up. I can't help but wonder who and why...

This is SAD !! one thread on new bikes seen at a show locked out, and then this.

OK ..... we all chose particular bikes for different reasons and its human nature to brag (my xxxx is better at yyy than your xxxx). But I've noticed a lot of plain 'dissing' of particular bikes ..... and as it happens, I own 2 of them !!!! and have nothing but praise for them both, in my case ....... a Brompton, which elsewhere is generally seen as a brilliant 'all round' folder that folds amazingly small, and Strida which is a great looking and performing 'stick' bike.

I am also considering buying another folder and so rely on gueniune experiences from other people, why they were chosen and how they have worked out in use.

Everyone is entitiked to an opinion, BUT if it is NOT grounded in experience, or, at best is the result of over-zealous brand loyalty ... (and at worst some kind of not so clever viral marketing) ...... then I bid them 'fairwell' and hope they are named and shamed. This forum would be better without them.

I just received a Downtube VIII FS for my son here in Montpelier VT. I thought the bike very nice for the monet...er...money. My son at first was not too sure as his experience in bikes has been mostly BMX. after riding it around town for several hours his verdict was "This is a good bike, I wouldn't be so tired if I hadn't spent the winter sitting around with my thumb up mt a$$". I myself am not too sure about the rear shock as I think it robs power from the rear wheel but this impression is from about an hours worth of riding. I have no experience with suspension bikes so I really can't say.

As one of those who have DT's and have been active on the forum, I have to say that I don't really notice
any more fanaticism about one bike or another. A lot of the activity is caused by the fact that
the DT is a nice frame loaded with fairly low end components that need upgrading and are purchased at relatively low prices by newcomers to biking that are looking for ways to upgrade the bikes. Yan
has pointed to the forum as a way to get answers from other, more experienced folder folks, both
DT and non-DT. He never told any buyers to go and rave about things on the forum. For myself, I am
excited about getting biking every day and I had put it (buying a folder) off for five years, somewhat
due to price, and somewhat due to the inability to pick which Dahon I would buy Too many good choices. The need to tweak the DT has the tweaker in me excited. But, in all honesty, a DT costs about the same as a Dahon, or more,if you were to upgrade it to the same components. But the frame fits me fine and I am getting to learn about the parts of a bike that I knew ZERO about before, and that is fun.
So I will continue to ask and answer questions on this forum UNDER MY ONE AND ONLY LOGON ID!
until things get too negative, which is a shame and seems to be inevitable on internet forums.

I'm sure Yan appreciates people's enthusiasms for his bikes. But I'm also equally sure that he knows his bikes are quality, and that will be the selling point of his bikes, not some fool who registers multiple times and posts over and over again about his bikes.

Now I need to look at Yan's website... see what's all this fuss about!

This little nudge probably would have created a flaming meltdown on other forums.

I am soooo glad that we all can get along ( rather nicely I might add )
Shows that we folder lovers ( no matter what bike ) are a notch above the regular crowd...

This forum is an excellent learning experience for all of us, lets keep all the good stuff coming ( of course Downtube stuff as well )

O.K., thanks y'all for the warm welcome(especially Koffee). I make two posts in the folding section and get slammed. I have been out of the country for almost a year and a half, and I sometimes rely and forums from the states to express myself to people that I believe are from my same culture. So I am a fool for posted two things about DT? Sorry about my enthousiam. And maybe I am not wealthy like all you others who can afford some high end bikes, but I hope that you all feel better for trying to kill my enthousiasm. I thought that this forum would be about the thrill of riding and expressing the things that are exciting about cycling. I just wanted to tell some one that I am excited that my mother is coming to visit me in France, and we are doing a week long trip together. That as more important than the trademark of the bike, and I understand if you aree all sick of hearing trademarks. So, please give me another chance, and don't call me a fool unless I really f.u..OK?

[QUOTE]Actually I am not a new comer to cycling either. I have a Raleigh Professional that is great condition, and I have been doing some long self contained tours in the U.S. since I was 15 (17 years ago). My father opened and managed the R.E.I. store in Cupertino, Cali. so I grew up around all the latest gear. Now, I am in a space of spending way less money and living simply so I didn't bring my vintage bike to France, and I didn't plunk down 1000 euros on a tour bike. I just wanted to point this out since you implied that I was a "newbie". Thanks.

V1ince, did you leave out the very popular Swift folder on purpose?
Do you have some ulterior motive in leaving out my new folder's name?

Of course, I agree with you that it's not worth mentioning that inferior company Bike Friday.
