Raleigh Twenty Build: Stage 2: operation road bike

Hi all you twenty fanatics!:) Just thought I'd tell you about the next stage of build for my Twenty. Here is what happened in stage 1:

1. Added a suspension fork
2. Added 3x7 sram dual drive, drivetrain.
3. Replaced bottom bracket, crank, and pedals.
4. New brake.

Here is what is planned for stage 2(some of it is already done):

1. New braze-ons for rear brakes - already done.
2. Frame alteration to allow use of my smallest cog - already done.
3. Adapter to accept an 8 speed casette.
4. Drop bars with brake/shifters.

I still have to do some painting on the rear triangle where the new braze-ons were added and where the welding was done on my frame to allow the use of the smallest cog, but it all works great. My bro-inlaw is upgrading his road bike from Sora to 105, 9 speed components and is giving me his 8 speed shifters, casette, etc. for my build. I am also considering going back to a non-suspension fork and going with bigger tires to shave some weight on the bike...I don't know if this is worth it - especially since I spent $100+ for the suspension fork in the first place and the fact that it will never be all that light. I wouldn't have gone through with it had it not been for the fact that I'm getting some free parts for the build. I can't wait to have my road-bike style Twenty finished. I guess I really need to get some pics up soon, so I can have before and after pics.

james_swift,

When you take the pics, show a closeup of the mod you did for the small cog. I'd like to do that on mine.

Looking forward to seeing it in all it's glory...

Hi Cheg,

I haven't taken pics yet, but the guy that did the work did. Here is a link to his site:

I went on an hour and a half ride today on the Raleigh Twenty...brakes work great and so does the small cog. Can't wait for some +32 degree weather so I can really get some speed going,
