Hi - I'm in Ventura, in Santa Barbara, there is Dahon at VeloPro on State, Brompton at Wheelhouse in Santa Barbara, and Bike Friday (and a good selection) in Carpinteria. Not exactly LA but very close.

Yes, it does need to be updated some as it was originally posted in 2006-my how times flies. Well, I now patronize a nice bike shop close by in Los Angeles that not only knows folding bikes, but is now a Brompton dealer itself (no more mail order, 30-100 mile trips to the nearest ones). He also services both my other 2 bikes (a 1972 Raleigh Twenty bike & 1970s Vintage German made Breakaway Frame bike). Plus there are several more bike shops that now offer to both service and sell Bromptons in the Greater Los Angeles area too. That is not counting other makes like Dahon/Tern. So a folding bike user has many more options than was the case in 2006.

That's good to know - I may need to take mine in there for regular service. I've mail ordered it (and am on week 4 of a five-six week wait for delivery).

we have come a long way since 2006 but my local shops in my area don't carry folding bikes. i ended up having to order one unseen and unridden to performancebike bought online in store delivery.

El Segundo is not far from Redondo, check out http://www.electricbikesla.com/. REI sells some Dahons as well, check them out at Manhattan Beach, I know the Northridge location had a few.

I am at the Manhattan Beach REI almost every week and I don't recall seeing any Dahons there. Of course I don't always look for them but I always at least walk through the bike section. Do they usually have other folders there? I know that REI had some rebranded Dahons a few years ago though.

the bike store in el segundo looks good. i don't see any dahons but it looks like they carry bromptons which are cool (although a little out of my price range).

You hail from Redondo Beach. Nice beach town and located to the Electric Bikes LA store which was my Brompton dealer until one opened up a just few miles from my house. Very nice shop and they also carry Montagues and Xooters too. Do stop in and check them out again. As for Dahons, most any bike shop could order one for you. Just ask.

Feel free to PM me for the name & address of my own local based Brompton dealer (and restorer of my other 2 present vintage folders) when you need a first tune up or other servicing for your new bike.
