Discs - Rotor Size
Chop, or anyone else running disc brakes on small wheels...
What size front rotor are you using? I think I remember reading that no larger than 140mm was recommended for ERTO 406.
I doubt a 160mm would make much of a difference. Any opinions?

140 discs are available but I think only Formula uses them in older models and only for the rear.... so it might just be a huge pita to get them...
Plus you dont really have a choice anyhow.... if the bike has brake bosses than these better be in the IS ( Int Standard) position, where the rotor size is than fixed to the correspondent brake you buy ...
There is the option with some brakes to go bigger rotor size.. with adapters.. that is not necessary..
160 mm is just fine

IS with 160s is what I want, but I thought 140s were recommended for smaller wheels (I did read this a while back and it may just have been unqualified opinion).

Hope has a 140mm for the rear only. I tried to get a 140mm front with no success.

I use Avid BB7 mechanical brakes and 160 mm rotors on both 406 and 451 wheels. They work just fine.

Also using BB7s with 160mm discs on a Airnimal with 406/20" wheels - great, no problems.
I guess smaller diameter ones might be less prone to warping/damage when packed, but 160mm ones are commonly available if a spare was needed.

hope does make 140 as well , but the caliper will only work in the rear not in the front
