Another Big Apples question

Hi all,
I've been trying to put off buying new tires until I actually have money, but I can see the sidewalls on my current set about to give way. I had been thinking of buying a set of Big Apples, but it now occurs to me that they will be significantly wider than my current Kenda Kwests. How much fatter are they? I want to keep my fenders, and there's not all that much clearance as it is. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have no idea what size a Kenda Kwest is, and you didn't even specify what size Big Apple you were considering, but I have the 26x2.35" variant and 2.35 is pretty close to actual on my rims.

I can't say how different they are from Kenda Kwests, and it depends somewhat on the width of the rims how wide they will be.

I have a set of 50mm (2") ones on my 20" rims, and they are 45mm wide and stick out 45mm out from the edge of the rim.

Sorry, yes -- should have mentioned I'm running 20" rims. Thanks, jur -- I'll do some measurements to see if they'll fit. Fingers crossed...

If you can't find the deal you want on BAs, buy some closeout anythings for $5 a tire. I would never run a tire on which I can see bias plies in the contact path. You're inviting a face plant.

I replaced the old puncture prone kenda kwests on my Dahon with Schwalbe Marathons- I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Big Apples don´t fit if you have fenders but I have never checked it personally

Good point. I'll try to find something I can use temporarily.

I went to pick up a cheap temporary tire, for which I paid about US$4.40. Took it home and was pleasantly surprised to discover it is a (Giant) rebranded Kenda Kwest, 65psi edition. I didn't realise you could get them that cheap! (and yes, it is real)

I was able to get BAs to fit with my Planet Bike fenders on my Swift. I have found that most normal width fenders will "just" cover the 50mm BAs when installed on most rims. All around great tires and with the reflex stripe they help your visibility at night.

That's what I was hoping to hear... thanks, Wavshrdr. By the end of the week, I should have a job of *some* kind that will allow me to pay for a new pair of Big Apples!
