5 Boro Bike Tour NYC - 5/06/07

I did the 5 Boro Bike Tour on my Brompton M6R-Plus. It was a great experience overall for me.

Go to this link to read a summary with pictures: https://tommylane.net/?p=361

Did anyone in this forum do the tour?

Tommy

Pretty cool. Did you have the camera on your helmet?

I used a casio point and shoot digital still camera that has a movie mode. I rode one handed holding the camera in the free hand. I did not record the entire ride, just little clips here and there.

I did it on my Speed TR. I was completely unprepared for the morning chill, and my legs were shivering by the time I finally started riding. I may have been lucky, but other than the beginning and the end (at the ferry), I only had to walk and/or stand at the bottleneck to get into Central Park. Riding through the park was nice, but I'd rather they plan a route that goes around it so we can stay on wide streets and avoid that bottleneck. (Of course, I also had to walk to get through the rest stop at Astoria Park -- it was pretty annoying that we couldn't bypass the stop but had to walk through the park.) And I felt like the Queensboro bridge was steeper, but the Verrazano was much longer.

My computer died near the beginning of the ride, so I have no idea how fast I was going most of the time -- but I did find myself passing lots of people, which was gratifying. All in all, a good time, and I hope to do it again next year.

My girfriend and I were on black and orange FS Downtubes.

Saw lots of brommies, bike fridays, dahons, 20s and 1 or two Birdys... but did not see a single swift???

Everytime I saw another folder, I wanted to ask if we can trade bikes for a KM or two, just to test some of them out...

never been on any other folders, except cheap chinese ones...
