OK, I've learned my lesson

Bought a Schwinn "no pressure" Seat and installed it this morning for a 4 mile test ride. Worst 4 miles of my life! The thing is terrible! If you adjust it to sit level with the ground then it cuts off circulation to your thighs as you pedal. The only way to make it work is to adjust it so the front is pointing more toward the ground and that where the worst problems came. I felt like I was gonna slip off the seat at any time and kept having to constantly push my but back on the seat. After 4 miles my hands, arms and shoulders are sore from all that downward weight.

Learned my lesson and going to go back to that big, gay-looking beach cruiser seat with springs.

especially nothing revolutinary

some people like stone hard brooks saddles ... I cannot get over the fact that I have to kill my ass for 500miles before it gets nice .... yeah right ....

if you like your beachcrusiser saddle .. keep it ..lol

I agree with Thor. I also now apply the simple comparison between shoe fitting and saddle selection on my Geocities Web site at:

http://www.geocities.com/folder_fanatic/Selection2.html

I used to listen to the "experts" and lived a very long, painful years on road bikes and the special hunched over sitting on too narrow saddles with absolutly no give or suspension because it supposed to be "better" than upright bikes with a bit more width in the saddle area. I now ride with upright bikes with some suspension built right in as well as cruiser sprung saddles that acutally fit me in the right places. I try not to be swayed by popular opinion or saddles anymore than the type of shoes that work for me.

If you want a "no pressure" saddle trial, then buy a Brooks Champion Flyer @ www.wallbike.com. They have a 6 month no questions asked return policy, and dont be too quick to judge the Brooks before you ride one. I was so pleasantly surprised when i tried my champion flyer sprung, that i bought another one, the B17(unsprung) and liked it even better. I dont subscribe to the belief that you have to "break it in" and ride for 100/1000/10000 miles. It is stiff leather, but it carries you properly, and it will give when it needs to and breathe when its hot. Think about it, how many horse saddles have gel filling, relief cutouts, space age material, magic potions, etc. A good saddle is a good saddle, and there are several styles for all types of riders. Get one at wallingford and try it for yourself, and if you dont like it, get another, until you find the right one.. That was not a paid advertisement, but a free plug from 1 satisfied customer.

For a number of years I moved my Avocet Touring III saddle from bike to bike, or had multiples of them when I had more than one bike. My latest bicycle purchase (first in about 20 years) came with an I-Beam SDG saddle, which I expected I might hate. But technology has moved on in 20 years (or my rear-end has changed, or both). Surprisingly I LIKE the new saddle.

So I don't think it's wrong to TEST some new innovations (provided you can return it if unsatisfied). But don't expect miracles.

+1 to Thor - each to their own
This reminds me of Sheldon Browns' RealMANŽ Saddles

My butt isn't like your butt... so it also applies with seats...

My favourite is the terry butterfly TI's... thought they looked terrible (leopard skin like black, hard as hell)... but it was more comfortable than a few gels I've had...

a few buddies tried it, but were not as impressed...

+1 on the brooks... some people swear by them... but I can't imagine even trying it... might as well get my old 80's BMX plastic seats with the 3 holes...
