    The Folding Society website

Well, I'm usually MUCH more careful than this...

I just ordered the A to B magazine off this website using my credit card.

Just as I hit the ORDER button, I noticed that the website is not secure, as advertized. It is http, not https. This is the first time I've missed this, and I've been ordering on-line for years.

I'm tending to think this is just an oversight on their part, as the site has been up for a while, and seems legit. And...if you're going to steal credit card numbers, why pose as a site for folding bicycle-commuting enthusiasts?

At any rate, I wrote them an email expressing my concern. I'll post their reply, if appropriate.

So...anyone have any dealings with The Folding Society?

Should I be cancelling my credit card?

    Thanks!

The Folding Society website http://www.foldsoc.co.uk/ merely has a link to the A to B website and has no direct connection with A to B. I assume you ordered via A to B's subscription page http://www.atob.org.uk/subscription.form.html probably using the US credit card link http://electricvehiclesnw.com/ which is another company in the US. It is possible that you have carried out the transaction within the Folding Society 'frame', rather than opening the link in a new tab or window. EDIT: either the FoldSoc frame or a new window should lead you to a new https paypal window (I'm using Camino). What process did you follow? PM me if you prefer /EDIT

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Folding Society and have spoken to A to B magazine previously but don't know the American company.

The extra danger posed by ordering from an unsecure website is not from the possibility of the vendor stealing your credit card number. The vendor can just as easily steal your credit card number with a secure site as they can with an unsecure site.

The danger of an unsecure site is that someone else might intercept your credit card number as it is sent to the vendor such as your neighbor, an employee of the telephone company, a computer hacker who has access to your network, etc.
