Un72's going out the door.
Went the UN72 route as the LBS wasn't interested in damaging their tools on tapping out the BB.
There is a bunch (whats the collective noun for a pile of BB's) of UN72's in the Uk for sale on ebay.
I bought one from them before and it is in brand new condition with fast delivery, will do business with them again etc etc.
A heads up, I think the expression is, for R20 owners.

Hmmm. I've ordered one, which means I now need Phil Wood rings,and, I guess, an install tool too. I was planning to go the plastic BB route. I guess that also, when the UN72 wears out, I'll be stuck needing a Phil BB as well, but at least that will be when I'm not springing for the rest of the parts!

Well, I won't be ready before then anyway. Thankyou! Although, if I'm going to use Phil rings, maybe I should just spring for the tools. I won't want to have to call you and wait for the post every time I want to do anything with the BB!

Was up in Boston this weekend. If I'd thought (and had the time) I should have popped over to Harris Cyclery. Thinking about getting some rings for non-folding twenty in garage before I leave the US to save on postage. Maybe I should get two sets and save you some too? PM me if you wanna go for it - I'm here for another couple of weeks.

Actually, it doesn't look like they're any cheaper than getting them from HubJub in the UK. The tools are marginally cheaper though, so if you snapped me up a pair of those, that'd be fabulous!

Well, this won't work in a R20 as the threading in the BB is not "English", but you can get the Phil Wood adjustibility that comes with his shoulder-less mounting rings by grinding off carefully just the shoulder of the fixed-cup ring.
A little blue Locktite, and you now have a couple of mm of left to right movement for those touchy chain-lines.
Will certainly work in English threaded BB shells. I believe Shimano made UN72's in Italian thread too.

You can fit UN-72 into a Twenty's bb shell with Phil Wood rings that are specially made for 26tpi raleigh threads. I think some people get 'Raleigh' and 'English' threading mixed up. Yes Raleigh bikes are English but the threading is Raleigh specific.
That's what this thread is essentially about - you remove the shimano cups and substitute with the Wood items that are made especially for Raleigh's bespoke bottom bracket threading.
It's a fix that definitely works - my bike and many other Twentys that borrow this fix from the Man Sheldon himself are testament to this!

hey why dont you just recut the thread in the bb shell?
Ive done it to a few old raleighs...Grifter Phaser old Cruiser bike and my 20.
On the first ones i didnt even use a proper tool
Just wound in and backed off with a english BB cup. Takes ages costs nothing
my shop would charge .....£13 or so for a Crank / BB fit. They would rethread the BB.
As they say Branches every where...
