Big Apples on a Vitesse
I was wondering if Schwalbe Big Apples would fit under the fenders of a Dahon Vitesse and also if they would help smooth out the ride a bit. Any opinions would be helpful

Not sure if fenders will get in the way, but my fenderless Vitesse uses Schwalbe Big Apples. They do smooth out the ride and are reasonably fast. This is photo of it. That's my wife getting ready to complete the second half our recent 34km group ride at a new bike path along the sea (we call them park connectors here).

Hola. I just put some Big Apples on my Speed D7 - pretty sure it is the same bike as your Vitesse. They work fine with the fenders although you do have to go through a bit of fiddling to get everything sorted. Very nice upgrade I highly recommend it. I'll be putting Scorchers on my Tikit [Alex W has had good things to say about them so far], but if BAs came in a 349 size and fit my Tikit they would be my first choice.
BTW - I understand the fenders on Dahons changed in the last year or two. My D7 is a 2007. If you've got an older bike YMMV.

I toured Lao/Thailand on Big Apple tires and its a very impressive tire. Keep it at 35psi and it can roll over almost any terrain in extreme comfort. Max it up and its able to make road riding remarkably brisk. This tire rocks!

they go for around 30 bucks each .. well worth it... they will fit all 07 and 08 dahons even with fenders
for 06 Dahons with fenders ,, they will fit but the fenders need to be oprimized and its a close call ...
thor
currently out of them ,,, but new ones are on their way

Pardon my ignorance, but does changing the tire require a different tube and/or different rim?
Also anyone know the actual specs for the original tires?

no problem ... a good question really
same rim ...
tube depends on ... if you have a 20.1.6 or 1.75 .even a 1.5 tire you can use the same tube....
if i started out with a 1 1/8 or 1.35 than you should buy an extra set of tubes....
( which might not be a bad idea anyhow, as the tubes are cheape4r than the labour to replace them )
