Pacific Reach w Swivelhead

This from a Taiwanese website. Shows a diagram of the newly redesigned Reach with Swivelhead fold. One might guess this will come out in a press release shortly.

The new Reach is out, but with no swivelhead tech. It lacks the strut in the middle of the main trangle. My guess is Pacific decided it is dodgy.

Just web-translated the accompanying TW Chinese text. No news here, just a re-post of the earlier license deal between Pacific and Swivelhead.

Too bad....Mark Sanders doesn't seem to be having any luck getting this design produced. I wonder why.

Previous statements from Pacific and pictures of prototypes seemed to promising:

However to fit the airline approved size, you need to detach both front and rear wheels, fold the frame and put them all in a carrying bag.

The Racer version is designed specifically for pure performance, therefore panniers and mudguards are excluded but you can find them on the Trekking and Offroad models.

The gear ratio of the Racer version is racing oriented, but still achieves a wide range of 30"-117".

Unlike the mass production throwable bikes, all bikes by Pacific including Reach Racer are true gems. They take years from scratch to finish, fully hand-made, countless hours devoted, deserve its price.

Where are you all getting this juicy info? Oldies, you are there in Taiwan, no? What is the story?

OldiesONfoldies 01-25-08 09:41 AM

Lets just say its from the man himself - for the Reach models ie.

Sure, but they need a year of testing first, so it wouldn't be out until '09. Too bad to hear that they killed it. It looked like the perfect 451 mulimode bike.

The new Racer will be out mid year... really tempting!

See the latest press release at Pacific:

http://www.pacific-cycles.com/news_d...&cat0=2&cat=25

Which contains:

The most exciting moment will be the official announcement of the IF (formerly known as Swivel-Head Technology) series, 3 models available: IF Mode(City), IF Cross(MTB), and IF REACH.

Time to start saving for another new bike.

OldiesONfoldies 01-29-08 04:32 AM

Wow - that is exciting. I stand corrected... :)

CMI 01-30-08 08:57 AM

What a unreliable news...

Hmm, I wonder if the IF line will be replacing the Reach line or if they will remain as two distinct lines. It would be nice if the IF Reach weighed in at around 8kg.

Hey guys, we'll see IF it really happens. Who among us could have come up with a more appropriate name for a ghost bike?

bangkok 02-06-08 02:42 AM

Crude translation indicates this is a 2006 predecessor to the Reach Racer. The Reach Bichette.
