Finally found an R20 to replace my stolen one!

Won this yesterday on eBay, picking up Tuesday. It looks in really good condition, but it doesn't have the Pletscher rack. I have a rack for a 20" that I was gonna put on one of the cheapies that got stolen - I guess I'll see if that will fit. Failing that, I know I can get another Pletscher. I think I'm gonna go ahead and plunge right into the conversion - I've pressed other bikes into service for commuting, so I can afford to just strip this fella down and paint. It also means I have no more excuse for not ordering my spokes and wheelbuilding.....which scares me!

Looks nice. Make sure you alarm that shed. The vermin may come back again.

WOW! You paid $24 sterling for that bike! What a steal! In New York City, that bike would sell for over $150.00 USD or about three times what you paid.

I noticed it's a single speed. Are you going to add a 3 or 8 speed hub?

Do you know, I hadn't noticed it was single speed? That's going to make riding it the 6 miles from Wandsworth to Waterloo through Central London traffic fun! I've got an NOS Shimano Nexus 7, and some sweet deep section red rims to build. Would've loved an 8 speed, but I got this for about 1/3rd the price. That, the UN72 BB I bought (along with some Phil Wood rings!), cotterless cranks, a longer alloy seat pin, a sprung Brooks, and I'll be good to go!

Funny you should say that Phatatude, because Selle make a saddle to help down in that region. Apparently long distance riding can cause certain dysfunctions and squash pelvic organs and pudenda arteries and may have serious consequences on the family jewels. The Selle SMP saddles have a central channel in the middle of the saddle that is an excellent feature for both genders, as it prevents crushing of the anus, prostrate, venae pudendae, deep dorsal vein and artery of the penis, scrotum and testicles in men and the labia majora and minora and the clitoris, in women.

Sorry to hear you had your 1st R20 stolen. Typical of modern Britain. Bike thefts galore and the police think it's petty. Good luck with the new one!

Just splurged on everything I need to complete the bike. Excluding, I now realise, spokes! Anyway, on their way to me are a 400mm alloy seatpost, a fitting kit, sprocket and trigger shifter for my Nexus 7, Phil Wood BB cups and tools, Brooks B67, Shchwalbe Big Apple tyres and tubes, plus Velox tape. Add these to the hubs and rims I already have, and I'll very soon be ready to roll......

Congrat's, Sammy! But... why would you paint it? I love that Blue. Unless the paint is ruined, why not keep it that way?
Rudi
PS, I found a source for black spokes for you. I'll send you a PM.

And a chain. I need a chain. Dammit.

I haven't actually placed the order for the fitting kit yet, because I can't quite determine whether the ones for the 8 speed and the 7 speed are the same.

Ooh! I'm interested in those black spokes. I don't particularly care for the blue, and I think that Matt black with those red rims will look sweet. Black Brooks as well. I'm of the opinion that it'll look dull enough not to attract thieves, but if you look closely, super-awesome.....
