Great news for R20 owners !

Just received a reply from Freeman's Cycles in the UK and they confirmed at the 5s axle they stock 70/127.5 is compatible with the R20.

They also have Raleigh bb sets.

I am going to order two complete sets (axle) and cups and also inquired about the possibility of making a larger group buy to save a few $$$.

:D

I'm interested in hearing how this works out for you. I was almost to the point of having my R20 BB cut and rethreaded.

I was starting to contemplate the very same thing... I'm just waiting on the cost and shipping details and after that it should not take long for the bits to arrive.

I will certainly keep folks updated.

I don't understand this thread. I can only see 24tpi cups. The R20 has 26tpi cups. That is the reason that people have them re-taped to 24tpi (which is the current, easily available size).

The second point is that the R20 BB width is more like 74mm. So I don't see how this is a solution at all. Mountain bike axles are typically 73mm which is closer.

I used a "7N" Specialized axle I got from eBay. I reused the original cups, and cut about 2mm of the side of the bb shell with a hacksaw. Looks like it will work, but it's still a work-in-progress.

I think this was initially looking at using the axle with your existing cups. Freemans say it will work, but I guess we'll see. I've sent them an email regarding 26 tpi cups, but no response as yet.

I once was messing with a bike.

Tried to fit an axle in cups. It didnt fit

Think it was Raleigh Axle in other cups.
Maybe the other way

Anyway axle was thicker than normal

Also check old cups for wear and rust. theres only a thin CASE of hardening on it.
