Bike Friday Desert Camp 2008

A nice week of sun, hills, and dry, dusty air. Lots of Friday folk, but some big wheelers as well. Video and photo links here if anyone is interested:

I have an orange New World Tourist, which they used for the SRAM clickbox video. Also seen several times stoking a canary yellow Two'sDay with Big Dave, when his wife's back was giving out. We were quite the hit, (and sight) as two big, burly guys pushing that small wheeled tandem around. not quite 500 pounds, as billed...but pretty darn close! Downhills were life threatening on that thing!

Good to see you posted and I agree everyone seemed to have a good time. From one of the crew. Roger

Roger! The crew was everything one could want, and more. Really, really made the difference. Great job!

Hey Zonker. Did your better half make it? Did you ever take the plunge for a BF for the aforementioned better half?

No, G. She didn't. She hasn't really had any zeal to take the plunge for the BF, nor really rides the Swift, either. I think I like the folding/travel aspect better than she does, she's quite happy on her 700c road bike. Me on the other hand...now itching for a Tikit, having tried one out at Desert Camp, will probably sell the Swift. I don't think I ever responded to your email announcement, congrats on your little Gal Friday!

Ahhhhh, well ... small wheels are not for everyone. Then again, she probably has you to put together the bike for her. There is very little incentive for her to get a travel bike.

The Gal Friday actually had a little baby boy. At this stage it is difficult to tell with clothes on.

Once upon a time my wife and I tried a Santana tandem. We were lighter then, but it was still about 350 pounds on the bike. We could feel the frame flexing and it was pretty disturbing. How solid did the Tuesday feel?

Hey there, Speedo. Not nearly as solid as my Co-Motion Speedster tandem, but I suppose that's a bit of an "apples to oranges" comparison. My NWT can get flexy at speed, and the Two'sDay was no exception. I was never overly concerned, but I was cognizant of it most of the time.
