I am looking to change tire size on my 20" folder from 20x1.5 to a 20x1.75. I want a little wider tire for dirt and wood chip paths.

I have heard that the Schalbe Marathon Plus is one of the most flat resistant tires, and gives a soft ride. It is also a lot heavier than the Racer.

Any one have any thoughts on this?

I've used both. Those are accurate words! If you are sticking to glass free areas that are also free of thorns and other puncturing pests, I'd go with the Racers. Otherwise, stick with the regular Marathons. They are tough, last long, and very puncture resistant (but they are a bit thinner than the Racers).

If you want a nice fat tire that is soft and heavy, the Big Apple is the tire for you. It's a few steps beyond the Marathon. Just make sure it fits in your frame.

I have gone the with the plus's

I would rather have almost no flats, and I also don't care about extra weight anymore...the amount of extra weight that the plus's have is so neglible plus any extra weight makes me a stronger rider

the only other almost flat proof tire I have used were the armadillos and thos ride like crap and are especially dangerous in wet weather, the when I got the plus's they were a dream come true...almost flat proof and very nice riding

so far I have plus's on my folders and my commuter and no flats or complaints 750+ miles total

Thumbs up here too for the Schalbe Marathon Plus's. I've ridden them over some fairly adverse terrain
and never had a flat and they give a nice ride.

also as omnirider will attest, here in Colorado we have the EVIL!! "the thorn who's name must not be spoken" devils Goathead and these marathons hold up to them as well

Well yes doco, I was going to mention Goathead (also appropriately called Puncture Vine) but I hesitated
since it must indeed not be spoken for fear of incurring its wrath for blaspheming its unholy name!
Marathons do indeed seem to shrug off their evil ways.

I have both Schalbe Marathons & Big Apples. As of yet I have not gotten a flat on ether one. Now I jinx myself! We have lots of glass but not much in the way of horns here in the NW. That being said I do love the ride of the Big Apples. I have three bikes fitted with them.
