The building where I work does not allow bikes inside unless they fold, and I'm not locking a bicycle up on NYC streets all day and expecting it to be there when I get off work.

i am from the transformer generation. the folding bike is my homage to that.

also i think the styling of folders hit a chord with arty/engineer geeks. and as snafu21 mentioned, i can take it to the bathroom with me, simply, because I can.

My folder makes me look 43% sexier. Unfortunately, my beloved tells me 43% of nuffink is still nuffink.

I go with the aesthetics, but twice over. Folders look better. But here's a new hypothesis, which I proudly call the g_g_hypothesis - that folders look better with riders on them than big-wheel bikes do. Proportions are better.

I ride a 29er for a mountain bike. An Electra Straight 8 for my cruiser. For certain travel/camping needs nothing else will work but a folder.

Why do I love my folder? Well, I can commute in town faster than car, taxi, foot, bus, train, helicopter... I can keep the bike next to me in the office... I can cycle straight up to the Apple store on Michigan Ave, fold it up and walk right in. They are absolutely unbeatable. I cannot imagine living without my folder now...

Just bicycle freedom!!!!!!!:

Always available, anywhere, anytime, no more boring, ex:

Needs to wait for someone for 15min or half an hour, take your bike from the trunk and have fun.

Wants to visit a small village, do it in your always ready folding bike.

Went to the park, oh! nice tracks, take your folding bike!

Well countless oportunities to use your bike.

And no visible from burglars, it's just undercover!!

Regards

1. Say you are going on a trip, and you are bummed because you cannot take your regular bike, and your friend has a folder (slang for a folding bike), and they let you borrow it. You ride all over the place, have a great time, and when you get back home, you will buy a folder of your own.

2. People who live in NYC get their bikes stolen every single day (ok, that is an exaggeration). But when your bike is stolen out front of your apartment, just buy a folder, and you can stick it in your closet, or under a desk.

"On top of that, your sex appeal increases aprox. 23% while riding folders"

Can't say that I had noticed this, but it has to be good news.

I can't speak for other folding bikes, but if you have an orange Downtube in Englandville, everybody (and I do mean everybody!) will stare at your bike as you pootle along. And some will even point. And some of those who point (and occasionally sneer, it must be said) will be chavs. Ergo vadis quo rectum. Some people celebrate blandness and conformity - their problem, not mine.

Personally, I like that I can keep my bike in a cupboard at home. So if I get lonely at night, I can get up and look at it, maybe stroke its handlebars. I also like that I can give it a shower in the bath when it's dirty. (Phew, this post is starting to get me aroused!). And I like that I can take it on the train any time. And that it's comfortable and fun to ride. And orange.

So if nothing else, this is all further proof that riding a folder will definitely increase your sex appeal by 37%.

I would agree with this, but keep in mind that 84.3% of all statistics are made up.

It is fun to own a folder because you can buy a bunch of them, cheaper then a car, fun to modify and cheaper, watch the peoples faces when they see you ride by on a folder.

What is not to like?

It's gets all the benefit of a bike plus more ++++. And who does not like bike? And who does not like occasional interesting conversation with people asking about your bike?

All my future bikes probably will be fold able.
