Yep. I need to develop a flyer. Thanks for being willing to distribute them.

I'll start, Bike Friday NWT
I'm debating between the Strida (not good for climbing up to the Marin headlands) and the Dahon Anniversary Helios (good for climbing up to Marin headlands). I guess I'll have to find some friends to ride my other bikes

I think this is a great idea[/B], Have a few suggestions.

Move the departure time back to 12pm (1200) because if folks are coming from out laying cities like Aurbun or San Jose by Amtrak Capitol Corridor or Caltrain it does not give them must time to get across town and meet at the ferry building do to the weekend train/Bart schedules. Also would be a warmer start with more tourist around.

If we did a group ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito returning on the ferry. There would be lots of visablity. High cycling/walking trafic over the bridge on weekends, plus the ferry. If you have not done this ride it is great.

Families should come as well even if they do not have folders. As hard as it maybe to belive some family members may not have bicycles. If that is the case they can rent them at Pier-39.

I am on the Capitol Corridor train to Aurbun every day. If you post a link or send me a copy of the flier I will make sure the riders with folders get a copy.

Is it too late to consider changing the date of the Foldfest to July 19th? That's the date of the Tour de Fat at Golden Gate Park. As an alternative to the original plan, I suggest we meet at the Embarcadero (for those of us coming via BART) sometime in the morning and pedal to the Fat gathering. For those unfamiliar with the Tour de Fat, google the phrase and/or visit the New Belgium Brewery website. I definitely plan to bring my Downtube FS 9 to the tour. It would be great to have a large showing of folders there.

Haha! First I ever heard of Tour de Fat. Sounds like fun. No reason to combine the two events. Let people do both! I'll plan to go to Tour de Fat. Very different events, though....

More info about the SF Tour de Fat here:

https://www.sfbike.org/?fat

The main reason I suggest shifting the foldfest to the same date as the Fat event is a selfish one. Coming from Davis, I'm not likely to be attending both events, and the Tour de Fat seems like one not to miss --if I have to make a choice.

Tour de Fat is a great laugh! I've been volunteering for the last two years - but even then it's a lot of fun. So for the opposite selfish reason I'd rather not have the ride and TdF on the same day - otherwise I can't do both

Yeah, I agree. We'll keep it on the originally proposed date. So far, the response has been terrific!

Bump. Just one month away!!!

I'm proposing a start time of 11am to give ample time for folks to take public transportation to the Ferry Bldg.

I've also made a flyer for the event (with apologies for the crude graphics ). If anyone than help distribute some, either physically or electronically, that would be appreciated. The more the merrier!!!

I've been trying to get some TV stations to cover this FolderFest. I'm using the high gas prices as the angle. You know, more people taking public transport to get to work and interested in folding bikes as a result.

Got a positive response back from Roberta Gonzalez of KPIX, who's a cycling/triathlon fan. She seems to think it's a good story and will pass it on to a couple of their reporters!!!

Gonna try some others as well. What the heck. It'll make the Fest more interesting.

SF Folder Fest!

I'm in! I've watched with envy the great folder events in London and Philly over the last few years, so I'm ecstatic someone has taken the initiative to hold one on the "Left Coast" - thanks! I'll be there!

Folder fest

Greetings,

Thanks again for setting up the folder fest! And, I hope you don't mind, but I've already taken the liberty of helping to promote the event. I sent your flyer to "Warm Planet Bikes" at the Caltrain bike station in San Francisco (because they specialize in folders), and to the San Francisco Bike Coalition's events calender. Please let me know if I can help out in any other way as well.

Regards,
Tim "There's-No-Such-Thing-As-Too-Many-Bikes" Bustos

Try Urban Velo.

I'll try to be there with my Swift fixie...since I only live a few blocks from the Ferry Building.

Time to bump this thread up since the event is just a few days away.

I just talked with BART TV, they are interested in filming the event for production. They want some shots of us coming off BART at the Embarcadero Station. Any of you able to join me in riding BART to Embarcadero? They are also interested in filming us at Crissy Field and getting shots of us folding a wide variety of folders.

MsIncredible? Sahadev? Anyone else?
