I don’t see how a tyre swap could lighten my Brompton as I already have Schwalbe Stelvios fitted to my titanium bike (I also opted for no guards or rack and just the 2-speed gears).
I do take your point though, buying the titanium version and fitting guards, rack, heavy tyres, dynamo lighting, 6-speed gears, Brooks B17 etc would defeat to purpose of going titanium.

Yeah, it's a bit comical. Titanium fender stays, titanium pedal bolt...everything that doesn't weigh much either way is made out of titanium and everything that's heavy is made out of steel

...but I guess if you can do without the guards and stuff then every little bit counts

If only everyone who claims to be an engineer on the internet was as circumspect as you are.

Christ how can something so simple be made so hard! Just ditch the Brompton pedals and get some SPDs.
Whether you get single or double sided it doesn't matter. Mine are the great VFM Shimano M520s which are double sided and include cleats! For £13.99 that's a pretty good buy. I put them on after having the bike for about a week. Have never looked back.

They should add some simple hinges to these bad boys:

for the lightest thinnest folding pedal on the market.

ON this subject, I have changed to a carbon crank on my mezzo. It was bought used on ebay reasonably cheaply, but I had to be carefully to fit the correct width axle. I wounder how this compaires to buying Ti stuff £ for lb. It cost £50 and I saved about 300g approx I think, but it feels great.
