Does anyone ever have a problem getting their pants hung in the gears on their folder ?
So far I have ruined all of my dress pants on the way to work.
I tried putting string around my pant leg but it still happens.
I do not know what to do.

Just roll up your pants past the chainring, problem solved. Alternatively, just make something to wrap around your lower leg that covers more of the pants than the string did, like some fabric with velcro.

Get a pair of gaiters.

The easiest solution is to roll your socks up over your pant cuffs; keeps 'em from flopping around, and if you get grease on anything, it'll be your socks rather than your pants. Of course it's a fashion statement as well, and it gives you a certain academic panache similar to a tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows.

2 choices: roll up your pants legs, or fold them tightly around your ankle and then secure them with a metal pants clip made for that very purpose (they do still make them, don't they?)

I much prefer rolling the pants up, but I've also tried the velcro straps. I've even tried rubber bands.

Stuffing your pants is too much of a fashion statement... very haute couture... and I can't pull that sort of thing off. ;)

Ah, well, there you have it. To me, it's a subtle way of telling people I have earned an advanced degree from a prestigious European university... a little too subtle, perhaps, but hanging a diploma on the wall is just to gauche.

Oh, that's right, duh, velcro has superceded the old metal trouser clips. It's been so long since I used them...

And rhm's stuffing method is a third choice - only don't just stuff it, fold the trousers tightly around the ankle and then stuff it. But your socks need to be tall enough to do this, especally if you don't want to restrict your leg movement. I didn't, however, know this was a fashion statement. I guess I have always been a trendsetter in the world of high fashion, and I didn't even know it. Fashion is my passion. Bwahaha!

I tuck my pant leg into my dress socks. Arrive at destination, pull up on pantleg, done.

Yeah, I find this is more of a problem with folders because the chainrings are usually oversized.

If you don't grease your chain then the only thing left to worry about is the pant getting jammed between the chain and the ring on the upstroke. I used to worry about it, but before I found a solution I must have subconsciously started making up upstroke a little bowlegged (or pigeon toed...not sure which) because it doesn't seem to happen anymore. There's obviously no power in the upstroke anyway, so I'm happy.
