Saw an unusual sight at the station yesterday

I've long been used to seeing nothing but Bromptons when I travel (though actually, there was a sprinkling of Dahons yesterday), and in some ways, this was no different. As I got off the train at Southampton, a guy wheeled a Brommie past me with a big, fat looking rear hub. There was a sticker on the hub that caught my eye; SpeedHub.......

I'm now going to have my eyes WIDE open for my local Rohloff Brommie rider. How much money do you have to have to buy that bike?

As they used to say about Bentleys, if you have to ask, you can't afford it !

Actually Sammy, calling it a Rohloff Brommie is correct, (rather than Brommie Rohloff) - The gearbox probably cost more than the rest of the bike.

It wasn't Nigleme was it, he said he was thinking of moving south !

I know he comes down here regularly, but I didn't think he had such a bike. I thought he was a Downtube man?

No not me. If I could afford a Rohloff I'd live in Kensington and commute to Milan, not Southampton.

I do have titanium parts though!

Ouch !! In mitigation though, a Rohloff wouldn't get throught the door of my broom cupboard, I can only just wangle a di-ray-li-our thingy through it.

I bet he was wheeling it through the station because he didnt have the strength to lift it, more time in the gym pumping rohloffs required..

He was wheeling it, so I'd literally have had to mug him. I won't pretend it wasn't tempting though!

I'll have you know I am a Gymnast - I run up to the parallel bars and order a pint from both of them.

come on guys, that are cruel macho fantasies: to squeeze in a German hulk in that tender triangle of an English princess.

Noo, better stay within nationalities the Rohloff will suit a robust german birdy well and the brommi-lady rolls fine with 8 Spd Sturmey Archer pushing her.
