No Cost Deterrent

Here is what I came up with for a quick way to maybe save my front wheel from theft.
Downtube 8H
No doubt it's been done before.
There are better ways, sure.
Makes one more thing to do in case the wheel needs to come off.
However lacking a longer u-lock while doing some errands this made me feel a little bit better.
The QR lever was rotated till it was covering the eyelet in the photo.
I ran some insulated single strand #14 regular house wire through the two now lined up holes and gave
it a couple of good twists with my pliers and snipped off the extra.
It's not going to come off with just my fingers, or someone elses fingers.

another alternative

i've lately been thinking of removing one of the pedals, too. i remove the pedals when i pack the bike for shipping and i don't tighten them much so they are pretty easy to remove. i think that along with a lock it might just be enough to dissuade a thief.

If theft is a serious concern why not fold the bike and take it in with you? I don't even carry a lock when I do errands with my Tikit. So far I haven't been denied access and that's just rolling around the bike without any sort of cover.

I agree with Vik... between my old Giant Halfway and my current Bike Friday Tikit I have never been denied access into a store. With my Halfway I would fold it in half, leaving the handlebars, up so I could roll it. With the Tikit, I can just roll it along. I don't even carry a lock. The bike never leaves my side.

That said, that's a nifty little trick and it should prevent a theft of opportunity.
