man...i'm not liking performance bike so far...

some of you may know that i'm expecting my dahon curve d3 this week. my first order was some how "misplaced" and their website is saying the bike is backorder and estimate available date was yesterday. i gave them a call yesterday and today and they said no dahon curve d3 yet. i dont know if they visit this forum or not...but i may give them a bad reviews here if somehow my bike order is "misplaced" and they have no ideas when they will get the bike again.

Vincent, I followed your posts since I am on the same boat as you are trying to get the Curve D3 from Performance. However, as I spent more time reading on this forum I realized that the Downtube Mini is actually a better bike. Maybe you should ditch the order and just go with a DT Mini?

I hate to say I told you so..... If you really want the Curve get it from Thor, people say he offers superb service and he is always there for his customers. I have not got a chance to purchase anything from him but he helped me a lot over the phone.... so it does say something about his service. Go with Thor and forget about the Curve form Performance, I am not even sure they will be getting more Dahons in the future, according to their Customer Service Reps...

If you go with the DT Mini it's a different story, most people here are really happy with DT, so do your research....

You can have any two of the following:

- low cost
- great customer service
- high quality product

...but not all three.

It may be a good idea to visit Bfold at 13th St, between 2nd and 3rd Ave. You will be able to check out folding bikes and determine for yourself which one is the best for you. With David's help, of course.

unfortunately i already checked out bfold...those prices are way out of my budget...i would like to get the downtubes...but that is also out of my budget too. one of the reason i wanted to get the curve from performance bike was they listed a great price for that bike...oh well...if i dont hear from them soon and winter is just right around the corner...i guess i will have to cancel my order and just do a hunt on craigslist for a great deal on used dahon, mini dt, etc folding bike.

thx for all your help. if u dont hear from me anytime in the near future...it mean i didnt get the bike and probably will wait till spring and summer to do the hunt again.

The Curve SL was amazingly difficult to get. It took my shop three weeks to get a D3 in stock. Dahon's been having supply issues with the internal hubs.

I notice that Sunrise Cyclery has the SL in stock, but no longer has the D3 up.

I've ridden both bikes, and while I'd be happy with either, I prefer the Curve; it feels more solid and easy to control than the Mini. That said, the Mini is a better deal and you get more gears for less $$$. The Mini has rear suspension, which chased me away; but if you prefer suspension and don't need a rear rack out of the box, your choice is obvious.

Prices will most likely increase next year.

Good luck camping and hunting.

Now, now Vik, let's not jump to conclusions. I've experienced all three qualities at Supergo, which is part of Performance now, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong!) The difference between vincent's experience and mine is I was physically at a large brick-n-mortar shop and not their website. It's like being in a candy store! I got low cost, great service and high quality. The downside was that shop is not my LBS but rather is 380 miles away from me in Southern California. I just happened to combine a visit to SoCal with a side trip to the shop. Maybe it was a matter of opportune timing (store-wide sale) but it worked out fine for me.

It is probably more a supply issue with Dahon than the shop wo keep giving them dates? I always believe people have a right to post negative feedback on a forum and freedom of opinion is important. Too many times people who follow or push a certain dealer or bike rally against this freedom and flame the person. Having said that, it is important not to jump in too quickly with such postings before knowing all the facts. However it's good people know there is a supply issue on the D3.

Thor your comments?

I know Dahon was having supply issues over the summer; I emailed Dahon customer service and they confirmed this. I'm theorizing this is the case now as well.

Always ...... Supply issues are indeed a problem.......
However the dealers who have ordered bikes usually have them in stock, versus Dealers who only order when somebody walks into their store ....Now eveyone will understand that a dealer who has most bikes available and in his stock, paid for them and such, that he might have a higher price than the store who orders when you walk in the store...

And than again ...some bikes are real hard to get..... ( Mu xxv is promised for next week !!!!)

thor
who does have a couple D3 in stock and and and and

clarification: I have offered you to go with Thor because he has the Curve D3 in stock as far as i know.
I also like performance, there is nothing wrong with them, they have great customer service but i don't think they can tell when it will become available again because they simply don't know. If Dahon can't say when it will be available again there is nothing they can do IMHO.
If you are really into the Curve D3 - go with Thor ! If you are willing to wait and see if PB will get it... it's totally your call.

If you are on a limited budget, perhaps it is wise to go second hand. Check this out: https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/836934123.html

The Speed P8 is a more manageable 27 lbs, and you might be able to talk the owner down from his price a bit.

If we're talking about an 8-9 pound difference, I would say get the lighter bike.
