Socal folder ride + long term plans

Ok, so the next folder ride will be on one of the bike trails, either SGRT or SART. I've added a poll where you can vote on your preferred trail + date for this ride.

Also, I wanna discuss long-term plans for the ride. Would you guys be open to a set series of rides for one year? I just want to be able to sit back and have set date/time/place for all the rides so we can do away with the planning thread for each ride and just have one big planning thread for the year. Less work for me, haha. I propose four rides a year, some showcasing the folding bike + public transportation aspect, and some just for fun:

February--ride from Union to Lake Balboa via Red line + Orange line bike path
May--Union to Pasadena via Gold line
August--bike along beach path, dunno which yet. We may or may not use public transportation. Any suggestions for this?
December--along a bike path, SGRT or SART (can be switched with the Pasadena ride, if that is more preferable)

What do you guys think?

Middle of the month works best for me too--13th or 14th. That's right after my finals so a good bike ride would be in order! Anyone else care to chime in?

Wish you luck and well done for keeping it going. The Hyde Park one died a quick death but hope to resume when not so busy at work!

I had to look aways down the list, but I found it! I voted, and I was in the majority on the path, but the minority on the date. Whatever, I'm fairly flexible.

Plus, with this coming up I'll be encouraged to get off my . . . well, whatever and put the larger chainring on my Mocha. I get spun-out in top gear far too easy.

A friend (and foldking bike fanatic) told me I wasn't supposed to be going fast on a folder. Well, it's not like I'm racing, but I would like to be able to do 20 mph without a 120 cadence!

Look forward to possibly joining you folks on one of your rides now that we will be living in SoCA for a couple of years.

I think you will be very surprised at the number of people gravitating to folding bikes. I have been spotting more people on them all the time. As for time for rides, unless I am in the middle of a holiday rush-not likely this year for obvious macroeconomic reasons-I will plan to show up at the very least.

FF, you're right! I see more and more people on folders these days--just saw two stridas on my commute this morning. It's great! I'm gonna print up a bunch of business cards with the info for the folding bike ride and keep them around so that when I see a foldie, I can try to rope them into the ride.

Btw, it seems like Dec 14, SART is winning the polls. Unfortunately, I'm more familiar with the SGRT, so those who are familiar with the area, please suggest a meeting place and a place we can get lunch. The start time can be later too, since it will be colder this time...around 10am, maybe? I dunno how crowded it gets on the SART at that time but it probably won't be too bad.

LOL, I don't know what's happening with everyone...well, I know v6v6v6 is busy with his preggy wife (or has she given birth yet? New baby!!!). If everyone's busy I might get all dictatorial on you guys and just set a date/time/meeting place instead of having it up for vote.

Feel free to go right ahead. I think that since you are the primary ride leader and organizer, you should be the one to pick whatever date you want. It is up to the individual(s) whether or not to come.

Ok, that post above ^^, is wrong. Lies, all lies.

I just went to the doc, and he says "NO BIKING!!!!" for at least a week, and take it easy the rest of the time because apparently my neck is all weird from the car accident I was in and biking aggravates it. He says that *after* I've suffered through a week of biking after the accident, and therefore made the injury worse--and he scolded me about it.

So instead of starting in Yorba Linda, we are doing a shorter route from Anaheim Stadium to the beach--that's 15 or so miles, 30 round trip. We can have lunch at Huntington Pier before we ride back to Anaheim. Meet and roll-off times are still the same.

Hey guys! I added an optional train ride from union to anaheim station. If you wanna take the train, be at union station at 8:30am or earlier. We'll take the metrolink 654 that leaves at 8:45 and gets at anaheim stn at 9:30am. It's a super short ride from anaheim stn to the meeting place.

If you're not taking the train, be at the parking lot near anaheim stadium orangewood entrance at 9:30am, and we'll roll off from there to the rampart SART entrance at 10. There is street parking on the sidestreets off rampart and there are several office building parking lots that people use. Parking is also available at the metrolink station. From there bike 15mi to huntington pier, lunch there, then back again. For those taking the train, return trip is on the 3:15 metrolink 657 from anaheim stn to union stn.

Website (see my sig) will be updated either late tonight or early tomorrow, so sign up! All the details will be up at the website too. Hope to see you all there!

Hope you people have a good time on this ride.

I was looking at the website and felt slightly amused at the disclaimer of responsibility ('BikeForums and ride organizers cannot and will not be responsible for any damages or bodily injury' etc), but then I remembered a court case last year here in the UK when some *!!**! sued one of his riding partners after he lost control going over a manhole cover and fell, when they were riding in a bunch and caused a crash affecting a few of them. The guy was suing for a lot of money. I was so glad when he lost the case. The willingness to sue people, even friends when a common activity goes awry is a deeply foul tendency. If it catches on as a habit, you'd have to think twice about doing any exciting activity with others.

In the court case the defending counsel made a common sense claim that won the day. He said, 'Cyclists voluntarily took on the risk of accidents and injuries by cycling in such groups without sufficient stopping distance between them.'

Yeah, my paralegal mum made me put that disclaimer. She has handled cases similar to the one you mentioned above.
