Ever hear of the StepDragon???

I saw these bikes for sale on ebay:

The poster offered additional photos here:

Has anyone ever heard of it?

I've looked at those on eBay too. Now I don't know if it's just me, but it looks to me like you would have a good chance of "pedal strike" :speedy:on the pavement when banking through a turn. The bottom bracket appears to sit too close to the ground, and combined with the long crank arms, is what causes that impression in me. Maybe I'm wrong?

But if that issue I mentioned isn't real, then for just under $500 bucks, it looks like a lot of bike for the money.;)

Yeah, the BB height kinda looks a bit low to me too.

joseff 01-06-09 01:06 AM

But it comes with a water jar hole :D

Seriously I don't think the BB is low, looks normal for a 20" folder.

Man, great amount of bike for the money. Importer sites for dealers seem to indicate a price of about $360 USD. All internet searches seem to come back to ebay or some ebay-related online seller. Had I not just bought a folder, I'd seriously consider this bike. Though I am bit short on water jars. Wife keeps using them to can vegetables.

It must be an illusion then:twitchy:

Like I said earlier, it looks like a really nice bike  for the $$$.

Looks interesting to me also

The seat tube angle is very severe.

OK, I said I thought the bottom bracket was "too low". "Chagzuki" is saying that the seat tube angle is "very severe". Who else finds any other "weird" things about this bike?:D

Seriously though, I was thinking the same same thing myself. However, there might be good reasons why the StepDragon is designed that way. One could be to move the rider further away from the handlebar so that he or she will have plenty of room without increasing the bike's wheelbase. Another could be to put the rider in a more "crank forward" position so that the seat doesn't need to be very high to get full leg extension.

I don't know. Those are just some thoughts of mine. If would be great if anyone actually buys one, and reports a full review to us.:P

Their ebay ad is pretty funny, you'd think they would have someone check the translation job. Makes me wonder about them but might be a great buy.

Looks like they are all gone now. I hope they come back when my tax return $$ comes in. :)

I was watching that auction, the bike indeed looks interesting. The stem post looks like it telescopes, but at the bottom clamps to the top of the fork like a Swift so its removeable instead of foldable. Too bad it doesn't come with a Kind headshock fork, it might compete favorably with Dahon's Jetstream.

Although unfortunately I agree with chagzuki, the seat tube does look sharply angled. And also, the seat tube diameter looks rather small compared to some other folders. I'd be wary of too much flex as a result.

Here's some galleries of other Snapdragon models. The Sport link gives an idea of the build quality on that model.

Well it's quite clear that the name "Stepdragon" is a brand, and not a particular model. That "Sport New Concept" (the yellow one) is definitely not in the same league as the one on eBay. And to be honest about it, even my Qile Duo folder, which I paid just under $110 about 9 months ago, has a fit, and finish that puts that bike in the website to shame!

The white bike in the other link titled, "Stepdragon 18", looks good though.

Oh well:roflmao2:

Edward

I had also seen another folder (Giant) with a really slack seat tube angle. If the rider is 5'8" or taller, he'd be sitting directly on top of the rear wheel (and possibly beyond). I can't help but think that the geometry of the bike wasn't intended for tall riders.

Could be an optical illusion, without a person standing next to it, it's hard to get a sense of scale.

Original question:
Have you ever heard of the Stepdragon?

No, but Cinderella has one. :)
