NorCal 2009 Folderfest?

I recall there was a "Folder Fest" last year for Northern California. Will this be an annual thing? i.e. Will there be one this year?

I'm not good with organizing but would love to help out and participate if such an event were to take place.

Folderfest 2009 anyone?

Yeah, I organized it last year. We got a pretty good turnout.

I was thinking about doing it again. July?

It was great fun and a great ride last year. It certainly would not be a bad thing to do the same ride again. Maybe we could shoot to ride all the way across the GG bridge and come back on the ferry. That would round out the day nicely.

There appear to be a number of newer Bay Area folder folk on this forum now. This would be a good chance for everyone to meet and say Hi!

How far north?

This year, I agree, we should ride across the GG bridge .... then, cruise downhill to Sausalito and grab the flat, protected bike path to Corte Madera, loop back, and have SesameC treat us all to lunch ... and finish with the ferry back... that'd be cool...

What is the estimated length and elevation gain?

You could easily ride a single speed .. Sesame rode his Strida last time.. I'd have to google the routes to be precise, but I would imagine, depending on starting point it could be somewhere in the 10 mile range.

Sounds like a growing consensus that we need one. Last year, we started at the Ferry Bldg, went to Crissy Field for a picnic and photo op. Then we crossed the GG Bridge. From there, some went on to Sausalito, some went up to the Marin Headlands, others went home.

I think a similar gameplan might be appropriate. Different length rides for different folks. I'll take the initiative to send out a mass call. Probably do this in May sometime. Don't want to peak too soon, ya know.

If there are other suggestions, keep them coming!

I'll put

I am in Santa Rosa. I've been mulling the prospect of doing a ride from Santa Rosa to Larkspur or San Rafael. That'll be 50+miles.

Depending on how I feel, I may ride back that same day.

A century on a Brompton 2-speed!

When the Folderfest comes around, I may just ride all the way to SF from home and snatch the prize for the longest distance biked to the fest. Unless someone is crazy enough to ride all the way from Socal.

It'll be fun. I'm in.

would like to join you guys since i live in the east bay (sf) but only if i can snatch a better folder before the bikefest. currently i owned a citizen tokyo and i don't think it is worthy of showing up since you guys will be showing up at the bikefest with all these premium folders. i will have that envious look the whole time if i show up with my tokyo. on another thing, although my tokyo has 6 speed, i might not be able to cope up with birdys, dahons, tikits and bromptons speed........

thanks,
vic

Century on a 2-speed Brompton? I cycled across Ireland on my Brompton S2L-X in 2006.

No worries Vic! .. this isn't a speed fest.. it's a scenic, casual ride among friends.. there will be at least one singlespeed Chinese Strida there for sure..

since it's a FOLDERFEST and not a race, the more variety the better. i look forward to seeing as many different folders as possible.

I think this is cool idea. 14R-I would be coming from Utah to SF for the ride. What about advertizing so others know about this? How many people can show on a folder?

We advertised all over last time, even in the Chronicle. We had about 30 riders show up for our first time.

For those that have not attended a "folderfest" (including myself), here are some links I found:

The thread on Bikeforums announcing last year's Folderfest by Alan:
SF Bay Area FolderFest!

A Youtube video of Folderfest 2008:

Hey, there's even have a Yahoo Group:

Happy to see SoCal folder folks have their own event brewing too:
