Bike to Work Day is celebrated on Friday, May 15 in the Washington DC area, with pitstops located at key points throughout the region. I'm signed up for the Alexandria pitstop at Market Square in Old Town. It will probably be my third or fourth full commute (my second will be Monday if the weather is as nice as predicted), though I've been doing multi-mode commutes more often than that. I hope I'm not riding the only foldie. I won't be joining a convoy though, I'm too slow - can't keep up. I may also pay a visit to the Rosslyn pitstop, since that's across the street from my office.

Here I am safely at work after a morning ride for Bike to Work Day. Last night was stormy, but this morning was just cloudy with no rain, thank goodness. Splashed through a few puddles, though - my black Tokyo has some brown splatters. The pitstop at Market Square was busy - got my t-shirt and water bottle, a bagel and some coffee. And I won a raffle for a dinner for 2 at Bombay Curry House! Then onto the Mount Vernon trail for the ride to work in Rosslyn.

Only one flaw to an otherwise nice morning - I saw bikes of all types - MTB, cruisers, recumbents, tandems, but only one folder - mine.

congrats for winning. out BTW day was yesterday and did my duty as a green citizen. i brought with me my dahon and noticed that i have all this blisters/sort of in my right hand for carrying it. as you know normally will take a couple of bus trips and train trip so folding and unfolding it is just cumbersome. i guess i need a glove.....same thing here....i saw all sort of bikes but never a folder. it's just me and my lonesome folder....

I completed my third full commute yesterday afternoon. I found a new route home that avoids my worst traffic problem. This intersection of three major roads isn't a problem in the morning, but in the afternoon it's terrible, and besides, it leads to a long uphill. I made the trip ten minutes shorter with the new route and it leads through a shady old suburban neighborhood - much nicer than sitting in heavy traffic in the sun waiting for a light, and hoping that when the light turns a car won't try to squeeze past me.

I want to use my folder for multi mode commuting to work, but the stem is under recall. I know it's a small percentage of failures, but I can wait for the part.

Vic,
I carry my folder using a shoulder strap, check the "back packs rucksacks for foldaway bikes" thread. You might be able to do something similar. It's fairly heavy, but easier on the hands.
