Go Bag A Bickerton: Folding Bikes TV Ad From 1983

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shxHFCi673A

I am not sure that this video was mentioned or posted at a earlier date by someone else. If it has, it was not highlighted by having a thread of it's own so I believe that it is worth repeating it here (again?) before I move it to my own World Of Folding Bicycles folding bike archive Website. Whatever the case may be, here it is in it's entire form in it's debut on YouTube. Perhaps if folding bikes today were taken more serious and advertised even as simple as this video is, maybe they would be far more acceptable as a real alternative to car ownership.

"This is the Bickerton TV advertisement from November 1983. It was put together for Bickerton Rowlinson Ltd by Sharps advertising, who subsequently became Dorland (part of Saatchi and Saatchi). This was a brave 1st for a small bike company. Amazingly Bickerton Bikes were able to afford to run this ad on Channel 4 in most UK regions, because the advert was acceptable when many others were not due to the Equity strike at the time. The name Bickerton is still synonymous with folding bikes, and it is amazing how many people still remember this advert 24 years on! For more info see www.bickertonbicycles.co.uk If anyone has a better quality recording please contact Mark Bickerton through the website."

This thread is also a good excuse to make an formal first announcement on the future of my Website series. I am in the process of updating and finding a new home for my archival original World Of Folding Bicycles Website on Geocities. It seems that Geocities is quitting hosting free sites or even being turned off by Yahoo completely by the end of 2009. Whatever the case, this particular site will survive but probably in another updated more technologically advanced form-similar to my blog's-on another server. I will keep all of you and my other visitors informed of all changes as they occur. If you don't want me to keep the original Geocities Website running before I move it, now is the time to let me know here too.
