    Learning to fly

I was thinking of learning to fly and was wondering which forms allow one to carry a folding bike. Specifically I am looking at ultralights, trikes, paragliding, parasailing. Do any of these let you carry a 30 lb bike? Or would I have to learn to fly a plane to carry this?

It all depends on the MTOW (Maximum Take-Off Weight), i.e. empty weight of aircraft, plus fuel/oil, plus pilot plus 30 lb bike.

30lb? Think less than 20lb. Find out the "lift" of the aircraft.
2000 Montague CX, I do not recommend it, but still ride it.
Strida 3, I recommend it for rides < 10mi wo steep hills.
2006 Rowbike 720 Sport, I recommend it as an exercise bike.
    1996 Birdy, Recommend.
    Wieleder CARiBIKE (folding), decent frame.

How about the new class of light sport planes. You would have to get at least a recreational pilots license to fly those. I have a friend that flies a paraglider when he is not in a 727. He likes it a lot. Your big problem is going to be stowage space. Most ultralight or parasail type aircraft dont have baggage compartments. Maybe with a two seater you could strap it into the second seat.
Flying an airplane is really very simple...Push the stick forward, the house gets big. Pull the stick back, the house gets small. Keep holding the stick back, the house gets big again.

Strida looks very similar to the steering triangle of hang gliders. With a clever mod, you can have an hang glider whose streering triangle coverts to a Strida like bike.

    ;-)
