    Good price on this bike?

I was looking to buy my first folder and decided on the Dahon Speed D7. Performance Bike has it on sale for $382 after I think 15% off. Could I get this for a better price or is now the time to buy? Thanks.

I bet it is 15% off the $479.99 "Regular Price" rather than 15% off the $449.99 "Sale Price".

You bet wrong good sir or madam. Final price is $382 give or take $5. I even got confirmation from the store.

So is this rock bottom for this bike, or will it be on sale next week somewhere for $20 cheaper.

I stand corrected. That's the lowest price I've seen in the past 90 days on a new 2009 Speed D7 from a North American Dahon Dealer. A used one (don't know if it was a 2008 or a 2009) recently sold on eBay for $335 plus shipping. See eBay item 200363034230. Sounds like it's time to stop looking and start riding.

Thanks. My dad doesent want me "wasting money" on a bike, but I just might have to buy it at this price and tell him at a later date.

There was a 20% off coupon a couple of weeks ago. You may want to wait for another one. They come along every few weeks.

Yes, bur the 15% is off the sale price. When the 20% rolls around the bike may no longer be on sale.

I shall be making a trek out tomorrow to test ride the bike and possibly purchase. If there's any reason to not buy this bike right now, please speak up! Otherwise, if you guys have any first time buying advice or warnings I would appreciate it. Thanks!

What are you looking for in a folder? What will it be mainly used for?

I go to school in the city and will have my own apartment soon. I plan to use the bike for trips to class or the grocery store, and for leisure rides when I have the time on weekends or after class. Also, I plan on taking the bike home oin the train while my girlfriend is still on her summer break and taking rides with her.

I wanted something simple, but with gears. I test rode the Boardwalk and while it was nice, I think the addidition of gears and decreased weight of the Speed would be beneficial.

The curve is actually a $50 cheaper. I kind of like the look of the Speed better, and would rather not have a red bike . I like the 3 speed idea, I feel that's all I would need in the city. The smaller wheels/fold is better, but I heard 16" wheels are more difficult to ride on? I dont have any folder riding experience as it is however.

Edit: I was looking at the 08 curve, that explains the cheaper price.

I have both a 16" older Dahon Classic and I just got my 20" Jetstream P8 today. Can't tell you much about the 20" ride yet, but the 16" has been great around the historic district of Savannah. Extremely manuverable with the small tires. However you do feel every fault in the road with the 16" tires. That is why I decided to upgrade to 20" and full susoension. Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks for that link. That's a good price for 08 curve. It's interesting that the site has pix of a red curve, but only the pink is available. Then the pink show Out of Stock (at least for me). Anyway to get a red curve?

i have the curve also and the schwalbe tire absorbs all the bumps. it might interest you to know that i have the red one and it draws more attention than my green boardwalk. i like it a lot in fact my daughter might sequester it from me. i was using it one time and she was saying ' isn't the red one mine ? if you can find that one at performancebike go get it. that's a good price and they will also give you the 15% discount if you tell them. with the discount that is like $339++ (EVEN BETTER)....

Wow, that IS a good price for a Curve. I'm very tempted to buy one instead of replacing the rear wheel on my Tokyo. My spouse, however, was not happy when I spent $187 on the Tokyo (new w/ shipping), is not happy about me needing to spend probably more than $100 on a new wheel, and certainly wouldn't be happy about buying a new bike and trashing (recycling?) the Tokyo.

Nobody who does their homework would want the Tokyo with a damaged rear wheel. If you wanted to buy an exact replacement wheel, you wouldn't find one. If you wanted a better one, it would cost you more than $100. Could I find a "bigger fool", someone who won't do the research and won't ask me so I don't have to lie? Maybe, but I'm too honest to sell it to them.

No, I'm either going to consider the cost of the Tokyo as the cost of an education in "you get what you pay for", or I'm going to buy a better wheel and hope I'm not throwing good money after bad. After all, I do like the Tokyo, and all I really want is a better version of what I've got.

Dynocoaster: She has looked at the Tokyo and expressed interest in riding, but if it isn't a single speed with coaster brakes like the one she rode as a child, no thanks. I can argue as much as I like that it isn't hard to learn to use hand brakes, but it won't help. Gear shifting is easier to argue - if you don't want to shift gears, fine, leave it in the gear you started in.

Well, I returned today with a Speed D7. It is alot of fun to ride and I'll be sure to go for a nice adventure the next time I have a free couple of hours.

I have a question though, the people at the store gave me answers I didn't like. Gears 1-4 feel very smooth when pedaling, but once I get to 5 6 and 7 it feels much more...grittier? When I'm applying force as the pedal is going through the 3 o'clock position, I feel a bit of vibration or something that I do not get in the lower gears. Is this normal? They told me it was just because the bike is new and things need to break in. I tried the other Speed they had and it was the same way so I figured this was the case.

If I think of any more questions I will be sure to post. Thanks!

Called performance today about the 08 curve. I admit I don't need another bike, but the price with the coupon tempted me.

I first called the 800#, the woman said that the pink one (which I don't want b/c of the color) is available but had to be backordered. I inquired about the red one and she said it showed "discontinued." She told me to call my local store since sometimes they have some. I called the store and the person said that she didn't see one anywhere in the country. She told me to call the 800#

Any suggestions on dealing with the Performance bureaucracy?
